software OS4   software OS4 : Yet Another SketchBlock Update
   posted by broadblues on 13-Sep-2013 12:10:38 (2826 reads)
SketchBlock 2.3 is up on os4depot.net

.download page

This update features some important optimisiations and GUIs for existing rexx based functionailty such as gradient fill.

Major Changes In SketchBlock 2.3... (Please click 'Read more')

Selection Masks -
Some optimisation of the selection process, speed up of up to 30%.

Transform Plugin GUIs -
Added ProAction GUIs for the GradientFill and RadialFill plugins.

Macro Recording -
Completely reworked macro recording. Can now output Rexx or Python code. Can output Wedge events, can output timestamps as comments in the code, also notes external scripts called in the comments.

Internal text creation -
Text creation no longer requires an external helper command,the freetype code has been moved in to the main executable. Resulting in substantial speedups. The maketext.rexx script has been adapted (and much simplified) to take advantage of this.

Improved anti-aliasing of paths fills -
By scanning in both the x and y axes and combining the results smooth anti-aliasing of path fills is now performed, without the need for oversampling. This contributes to further improvements in the rendering of text.

Splash screen on startup -
A splash screen with loading progress bar is displayed at program startup.

Some bug fixes -
See the changelog for details

@broadblues

Thanks for the update, all good work, keep it up much appreciated! Any chance of a video tutorial for us too lazy to learn on our own (just don't get enough time with my Amiga)?

PS: Will donate again when I get paid.

I nearly downloaded the previous version last night and then thought I'd leave it a day or two. :)

@Broadblues

Nice clean looking interface (on v2.2 at least), you can work out the functionality just from the containers and icons, which is always good. Would love to try it out, not that I have any artistic talent to express through it.

Any screenshots of the new version in the meantime until the website gets updated for 2.3?

It seems a pretty comprehensive website to give due credit, and I haven't even looked at the include documentation (although I noted the direction towards said docs in the readme ).

Yes sound like good day to do software releases, as something always goes wrong.

Hi Noel,

Load your Jpeg via the Project->Open menu item.

Choose menu item Layers->CreateText.

A small window should open with various text options.
If this doesn't open then ensure you have ProAction installed, it's required for script GUIs.

Type the required text in the string gadget, use *N for any new lines required. eg

"This*Ntext*Nis on three lines"

(quotes not required in the gadget.)

Choose your font. You must choose the actuall ttf or postscript file not it's amigaos reference (ie not .font)

eg 'Fonts:_Truetype/Arial.ttf'

This is because I'm using freetype for font processing, I need the actual line paths that make up the font and the bullet api doesn't give access to those.

Choose the font size, and line spacing with the height and baseline options.

The other options will either stroke the font outline with the current brush or fill the font outline.

Click the Create Text button.

A new layer with the text you requested will be created.

Drag and or resize this layer to the correct position.

Choose 'Project->Export as...' to save as a jpeg or Project->Save to save as a SketchBlock project.

If you get to the GUI stage and get no text, make sure the default font really exists on your system.
