software OS4   software OS4 : Huenison on Steam - good news also for Amigans!
   posted by saimo on 26-Feb-2016 16:10:44 (5008 reads)
Today Huenison lands on Steam, and this is good news also for AmigaOS 4 users because:
* buying the game on Steam gives also access to the AmigaOS 4 version as a freely downloadable DLC;
* who bought the AmigaOS version already has been given a free Steam key (RGCD customers have received the key by email; AmiStore customers can get their key directly from AmiStore);
* the game has been enhanced further since its original release, and now benefits from the improvements listed below;
* for a whole week the game can be purchased with a whopping launch discount of 20%!

NEW FEATURES
* Added ALL LEVELS bonus.
* Added 5x CRT dots mode.
* Added screenshot feature (press [PRINT] to take screenshots).
* Gave Huenison's face a different color at each interlude.

BUG FIXES
* Reworked video initialization:
* allowed running in window on 16-bit screens;
* worked around libSDL 1.2.13 bugs on AmigaOS;
* handled case of no resolutions returned by SDL_ListModes().
* Worked on disturbances upon level completion:
* fixed disappearing of BADLINES;
* ensured that disturbances are never generated again after being disabled.
* Activated BADLINES sound effect in FACE-OFF level.
* Added fixed channel for speech to avoid it being interrupted.
* Fixed surface leak in wiper cleanup.
* Changed timing check of intro, so that, even if auto-pause kicks in, still the menu becomes active as soon as the speech ends.

OTHER IMPROVEMENTS
* Moved RESTORE bonus notification to when it is achieved.
* Moved hiscores saving to after player name is entered for more robustness.
* Re-rendered final speech sample with two additional laughs.
* Made audio halt immediately when pause is entered.
* Redesigned icons.
* Updated/improved notices/instructions/manual.
* Made a minor optimization in menu.
* Made other minor changes.

Who plays the game on Steam will not only experience the excitement of the game itself, but will also be able to collect:
* 14 achievements;
* 5 trading cards;
* 6 badges;
* 5 emoticons;
* 3 backgrounds.

The game plays exactly the same, except that on Steam you get the additional Steam-specific features.
BTW, don't forget to update your AmigaOS copy

@all

Thank you!

@Lazi

If you bought the game through AmiStore, yes: I have provided A-EON with the updated package (so, I guess, it's just a matter of time until it's made available - if not done already, that is).
If you bought the game through RGCD, then, yeah, RGCD has sent a Steam key by email to all the customers.
Where did you get the game from? Let's see if I can help.

Well, honestly I could not remember, as it was too a long time ago that I came across the problems So I had to look at the SVN logs and at the code. Disclaimer: since I can't remember what I did/dioscovered back then, I'm just interpreting what I noted down.
On Aug. 25, 2013, I have logged this: worked around libSDL 1.2.13 bugs on AmigaOS. In the code, from a quick search, I've found the following comments.

Quote:
a) AmigaOS libSDL 1.2.13 SDL_ListModes() problem: the alphachannel is ignored by setting its parameters to 0 because the function fails otherwise. Anyway, the alphachannel is not needed for the video canvas.
b) AmigaOS libSDL 1.2.13 SDL_ListModes() problem: under some unknown circumstances, the function returned 0 if the desktop depth was not 32-bit.

Quote:
// Retrieve desktop resolution (manually on AmigaOS, as SDL_GetVideoInfo()
// of libSDL 1.2.13 does not do it).

In case a), I mean that I had to set Ashift and Amask to 0 in the pixel format data passed to SDL_ListModes() even if Aloss was set to 8, otherwise the fuction would fail. While that logically makes sense with respect to Amask, such behaviour differs from what the same function does on Windows (and maybe Linux). I wonder if on Windows the function does something like...

if (format->Aloss == 8)
{
format->Ashift = 0;
format->Amask = 0;
}

... with the result that the function is more tolerant; or maybe it is a matter of how video modes are handled... oh, well...

I got the steam key already from RGCD, but that is no use for me. Only the OS4 version has interest here. I have no steam platform for personal usage.

@saimo

Is there any AOS4 executable somewhere, where?

I can play on Steam though, but want to play on AOS4...

@Marko

You can download the DLC from Steam itself:
1. open the game page in your Steam client;
2. request the installation of the DLC;
3. browse the local files of the game;
4. transfer the file Huenison.lha to your AmigaOS machine;
5. unpack the file;
6. run the installer (you can overwrite your current copy).

Sorry for the late reply, but now that Huenison is released, I could finally resume the development of QUOD INIT EXIT II
