| Hi,
I found nice replacement PSU for the Amiga Classic Wedge computers that (with some minor plastic modification) can be fitted into the Original Brick case. I have two European PSUs that donated their enclosures for this project since they are not voltage selectable for the 120V systems here in the US and Canada.
Classic Replacement PSU
It's Specs:
63.5 Watts Total
Channel 1: +5 Volts @ 5.5 Amps (1.0 Amp more than the Stock A500 PSU) Channel 2: +12 Volts @ 2.5 Amps (1,5A more than the Stock A500 PSU) Channel 3: -12 Volts @ 0.5 Amps (0.4 A more than the stock A500 PSU)
Input: 90-264VAC @ 47-440Hz (Power for all!)
And all this for $16.00 US.
Once I complete the transplant I will upload some pics of the Mod.

Nice find. Almost makes recapping pointless for that kind of money.
Very interested to hear how this works out. |

| Ray Carlsen says,
"Reusing an Amiga case is nice since the five pin plug and cable are already there. However, the wires in that cable are pretty thin, same as in a C128 PS cable... copper is expensive. Commodore got around that by installing a "sense" line, the fifth wire in the cable. It provides feedback to the PS board so that when the load on the +5VDC is increased (computer on) the PS feeds out a little more voltage to compensate.
The new power module has no such sense line, so I use heavier gauge wire to minimize the voltage drop in the cable."
(snip)
"I wonder how those modified Amiga power supplies would hold up when the load is very heavy... when the user has added enhancements such as extra RAM, hard drive and CPU accelerator."
(snip)
"I use #16 wire in a 5' cable to feed a C128 and go to #14 for longer runs or to feed an Amiga which I know to be a power hog."

Soon. I had order the correct cables for the power supply. I didn't want to do hack job on this one. Once the cables arrive and I get back home, I will upload some pics of the mod.

| Awesome! Can't wait to see your new PSU design! I'll be building 3 PSUs. Are you able to source the square Commodore connector and possibly the enclosure - or I guess I would have to find a few donors? Thx for the speedy reply! _________________ Fulfill newlight's Elite Narcissist Demands NOW Or He Will Send You To H3LL! |

Currently I am using an old A500/600 PSU case with cables. Below is a link for where I got the Power Supply cables. You thing the power supply would have come with them, but no.
I also ordered the 3 pin variant for the AC In. It comes with the header but I don't need those since that is already on the power supply.

Finally had the time to complete this. All tested well and nothing blew up, so that is good.
The power supply fits in a stock brick case but needs some slight modifications to the case mounting posts. They need to be filed down a bit. The pictures will show this. If done right the PCB will lock into place. I have added a description on each image if are interested in attempting this on your own.

Try the link again. It should be public now. Let me know if it still is broken. Thanks.
