News   New look for AltaVista
News posted by DaveyD on 10-Nov-2002 9:54:32 (2579 reads)
In the current world of search engines, less is more and AltaVista is angling for both.

The struggling company is trying to recapture its former glory as a search engine heavyweight with a newly redesigned Web site, featuring a sleek, spare look that takes a cue from current search champ Google. The new site is scheduled to launch Tuesday.

Among other tweaks, AltaVista said, the new site will feature an ad-free home page; "fresher" search results, updated navigation for news publications and new tools for pinpointing relevant pages.

Announcement   Community Media Project, DBV DVD
Announcement posted by Anonymous on 9-Nov-2002 16:55:11 (2170 reads)
Hi All-
I'm in the process of editing a DVD version of "The Deathbed Vigil and other tales of digital angst", my film about the end of Commodore. In the DVD tradition, I've worked up some "special features". One idea I had was this: the Amiga's Impact, and what that meant. Not to me, or a few of my C=/Amiga buddies, but to anyone and everyone.

So here's the deal. Email me (with "DBV" in the subject) or reply here: what was the Amiga's impact. On you, on the industry, whatever -- your words, not mine (except when I need to edit them to fit on an NTSC screen). I have some of these, I need more, and when I have enough, the project is closed. I have to get the DVD out next week, but if you hurry, your chance for dubious immortality is here.

Please include a name, your own ideally -- don't be someone else for this. Thanks!

Your pal,
-Dave

Software News   OctaMed SoundStudio 2 cancelled forever?
Software News posted by _Steve_ on 9-Nov-2002 18:36:28 (2063 reads)
OctaMED SoundStudio V2 DEAD ??
We are sorry to say that we have heard nothing from the katodev team for a very, very long time and having made many, many attempts to get a reply, we have been forced to face the fact that, even with all their failed deadlines and promises, they have let us, and you, down badly.

Sadly, following instructions from our solicitor, we have today, been forced to e-mail Katodev with instructions to destroy all OctaMED source in their possession, this includes original and any new source they have.
