Most Amiga enthusiasts here on the net should be somewhere in their late 30s

I always read this, I don't think I'm amazingly young to be an Amiga fan in my 20s (28) I got an A1200 xmas 1993, loads of my school-mates did too, maybe it's different in the UK, where Amigas were very popular with school kids/teens at its peak. All my friends in their late 20s-31ish remember the Amiga fondly too.

My brother is also a big Amiga fan at 23, obviously played the games as a kid as I owned on.

@persia

Let's try and stay on topic shall we? This isn't about any other technologies or their specification/price point.

Enough threads are de-railed with horrendously off-topic conversations as it is, and it gets tiresome for us to keep repeating ourselves over and over to keep things on topic.

Sorry, you are right, ARM is off topic and discussed elsewhere. My bad.

The delays on X1000 speak only to the scale of the project and definitely does not indicate any malicious or misleading intent. After all, it's not AI we're dealing with here and we should all recognize that.

Besides, so what that it is taking longer than anticipated! What other options do we have for modern-ish AmigaOS hardware? Our alternative is nil, nada, bupkis!

So, it is not blind-faith, its realism that our options are non-existent, so our tolerance is high.

In other words, better late, with something great, then on time with nothing.

Well, there's the SAMxxx line of MBs. SAM460 is decently modern, DDR2 RAM, radeon 4xxx series cards.

It will be interesting to find out just what is the reason behind the delay(s). I have heard various rumors and some of them make more sense then others.

@WolfToTheMoon

Yes, I agree. I don't discount the SAM460. That board is definitely a nice step forward, even if a somewhat conservative specification relative to modern PC or Mac hardware.

Still, the point I'm making is that advanced hardware that requires an R&D budget and very talented engineering team to specifying, design and engineer a hardware and software solution that at least attempts to make the Amiga somewhat novel and unique again is a treat this community hasn't been afforded in decades. Which is why I don't understand the cynicism.

I say, the more time our platform has under that team's spectacles, the better, because it is unlikely we'll get that chance again without overwhelming success out of the X1000.

@sundown
so why is it used against them (all the time), if it is not being used against anybody else?
or in other words, can the lack of communication not be used against them?

Why bother with the effort of writing up a report when you can get the criticism without lifting a finger?

They can't have it both ways.

They chose to make announcements, websites, etc. To then just go dead silent and leave everyone in a lurch is B.S.

If they hadn't chosen to make a HUGE fuss in the first place and make announcement after announcement for a year people wouldn't care less if they stayed silent.

I confirm that this is partially the case in Greece as well. I am 27 (becoming 28 in some months) and most, if not all, of my friends used to play/know the amiga early 90's. We had computers stores that you could rent an Amiga per hour, in store, to play some game (and boy, every store was filled up with kids throwing joysticks to each other, lol). We used to make kick off tournaments after or prior school. Clearly, by 1992 most of the 10 years old that owned a computer, would have been a A500. Now, these people should be at late 20's. Each and everyone has fond memories of the machine. Amiga was a huge player here in Greece along with Sega and Nintendo regarding games (the top selling monthly computer/gaming Greek magazine of that time dedicated constantly around 1/3 of its papers to fully cover the Amiga scene). Whoever was involved in gaming or general computing at early-mid 90's most probably will have extensively used or privately owned an Amiga in Greece.

@Cool_amigaN

I'm glad younger Amiga users exist. But when 10 in 1992, those are pushing 30 already so should know how to practice patience, that deadlines are likely to be passed once the organisations trying to meet them are smaller / have tight budgets, and that the Amiga market is not as vast as we would like and that it isn't going to change soon (and the X1000 isn't going to make that sudden change either). So, let them (A-eon) carry on and build good quality hardware that's worth the wait. (a tiny leak of information would be welcome... )

@Amiga_3k

Just notice Amiga Future issue 89 will have a x1000 update report, so maybe, just maybe we will get a bit more info with that.
