I saw that page yesterday, but somehow I overlooked the mp3!
So A1222 networking drivers are done and they're working on sound, which is progress, I guess.
I can't get excited about the X5000/40, since that's just two more cores that will go unused. If they were cheap cores like the RPi3 it would be well enough.
Update: At about 21:54 Trevor says that "it's just about a matter of starting production," referring to Tabor. I was under the (apparently incorrect) impression that the boards had already been made and are sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

I understand your position, but I'm only interested in cheaper models because the expensive ones don't sell in volume, and it's not worth writing software for such a small market. If they could come up with something super cheap and sell 100,000 of them, I think that would really jump-start software development.
Think about the huge number of "I used to use Amiga back in the day" people who seemingly came out of nowhere when Commodore USA announced that they would be selling x86_64-based Amigas, and then disappeared again when Commodore USA failed to deliver. I joined their forums, and it was mostly new people, with few of the usual suspects.
Those people are the market, not (just) us.

It's the X5000/20 boards that have been produced and are sitting in the warehouse (I've seen them), not the X5000/40._________________ The Rear Window blog

That's probably what I am thinking of. I remember seeing a picture of a stack of boxes in a warehouse, probably on Trevor's blog, and somehow I thought they were Tabor motherboards.

I was under the impression (I guess incorrectly) that the /40 boards had already been produced too, a conclusion I had drawn from the fact that TLOSM was always writing about his benchmarking results with Linux on a /40.
The GOOD NEWS in that audio presentation is that the new ISO for the X5000 also supports the /40. Can't wait to get mine.

Can't find the picture of the X5000/40, but that would be the only thing to get my attention too.
Since I already have a Quad G5, the X5000/20 doesn't interest me.
And with the development that is ongoing. I should be able to emulate a SAM460 with the G5 in the future and run OS4.1.
So, if Aeon wants to sell me an X5000, then it's got to be at least close to as powerful as my dirt cheap G5.
I'm willing to spend the money, even if I'll soon be able to buy a six core/twelve thread Ryzen 3000 series CPU for about $100 that will blow all this out of the water.
Maybe they will introduce both the A1222 and the X5000/40 at AmiWest this Fall. Both have been seen in the wild.
I even know one MorphOS developer that has an X5000/40 board ( btw, this board has issues the '020 version doesn't have, so maybe they are working on those bugs). |
