Since I can not contact anyone at this time due to their travel, I'm doing this on my own. I'll call attention to this thread later when they are settled.
I think I can get some folks to consider taking questions other than those asked on the floor of AmiWest 2019, so please participate here if you wish.
Please stick to questions as opposed to commenting on the latest news items circulating.
Thanks.

I've updated the AmiWest broadcast page with the schedule and the youtube links.
We also have a flyer for the show this year. You can check it out here.
More to come! |

Please change dates on broadcast page to current when you get a chance, just to avoid misunderstanding. At last check they were from last year.
Also, just noticed your utube about a/v testing and short broadcast on Friday night.
I'll be sure the test channel is set up by then, if no one else has done so.
If it seems silly to post this here, I just don't want to risk missing anything if I can't locate you otherwise, considering how busy you must be.

| I'm really enjoying the Exeg-SG videos.
Interesting to see Scrum becoming important.
1. Do you plan to do code reviews, like with something such as ReviewBoard?
2a. Is there a coding standard? Like how Linux Kernel has it's particular coding style requirements or else they refuse submissions, and there are several different style standards in different projects or companies. 2b. Cert C, Misra or some other secure coding style??
3. I'm curious about your comment about the X1000, in the 2nd hour video at 24:40. Can you elaborate? Something about waiting to hear from Hyperion about something...
4a. Is there a contact point or procedure to inquire about porting to new hardware platforms? Amiga Inc. had long ago posted their formal contact point but then completely ignored many attempts to do so, with no response of any kind whatsoever... Please do better than they did! 4b. Is there a standard in place about port fees, for those who need to just hire you guys, and for those who can contribute?

| About the DMA Engine, which is nice to see coming up, will there be some API for software to inquire if there is a DMA engine available on the current hardware and then do other things if not, or will DMA Engine have some software-equivalent built-in as a transparent feature and applications/drivers do not need to know about this hardware at all?
What would be involved with getting X1000 supported for this?
If one were to be transferring data such as from network download to hard drive, can a couple dma buffers be reused in a leapfrogging way, such as network DMAs the download into buffer1, and when that buffer is done th enetwork jumps to buffer2 while sata reads from buffer1 on to hard drive? Or are things a bit more complicated than that to require CPU intervention from time to time?

From utube chat:
Bill Borsari For tomorrow's ExecSG talk you can post questions in amigaworld forums for AmiWest
So post your questions here please.
Thanks.

Please read.
Many have asked questions about ExecSG in other threads. It would help if you copy them here, since the show promoters, who are gathering this information have a LOT of other things to do than hunt through various forum threads.
Thank you.

1) Is adding multi core support while keeping compatibility not leading to bad implementation? (Kludge)
2) why not just wrote a proper Exec (and OS) by breaking compatibility and start writing AmigaOS NG while providing compatibility through a sandboxing environment and developers porting their software to the new OS.
3) since Trevor owned ExecSG isn’t it simpler to buy other OS components from their respective developers and became indépendent than having to deal with Hyperion which didn’t released anything for AmigaOS in ages (PPC)
4) in the Amiwest site there is also “ GART implementation, faster speed, 64-bit support, and extending the RAM limit beyond 2 GB to 4 GB and beyond.” is these also planned features?
5)any ideas of the speed gain once multi core implemented?
6) did you talk with Carl about the new ExecSG plan? If yes what did he thinks about it?
7) any plan for an ExecSG RKRM?
8) since many HW are not sold anymore why do you still support them? Fixing major bugs should be enough then move on IMHO as your ressources will be better spend elsewhere.
9) how about full memory protection and ressources tracking is it planned for ExecSG? |

Are there any timetable for the core Exec NG team to attend a ( Cyber Security) (ISC)2 / CISSP Certification Conference ?
How much of AmigaOS has been updated to Modern C ?
In the past there was a mention of wanting to clean up and update AmigaOS source code to safer code :
We all know EVERY undefined behavior with a compiler is a potential risk to security, reliability and ultimately costs money in development time, any progress regarding this ?
Verified Software Tool chain other tools are :
MISRA C is 'said' to be a safe C language, as well as Safe-C + source code analyzer such as frama-c.
Will there be a regular Operating System features modernization meeting ?
It is said that some professional C++ developers use Object Orientated code incorrectly, The programming language Eiffel improves Object Orientated design techniques, what are your thoughts regarding the language ?
eiffel.org website
Any plans for a single level store to assist in being abstracted from processor, as in the brilliant IBM I ?
What are the plans to improve Exec SG to be hardware independent ?
From the DevCon videos it seams a lot of communication and data is being repeated with regard to the boot loader loading data which then loads and scans PCI hardware that again communicates to the monitor ( no info about efficiency in communication) to provide monitor information that then gets passed to the GFX system - whew.
That is a lot of processing and potential slowdown that can be heavily improved, what is the fastest and most efficient protocol to communicate to a monitor ?
If you can quickly get monitor ID ASAP then surely one could just attempt preset settings for that id and eliminate unnecessary communication.
A background process could do additional tests if necessary while the rest of the system loads.
If it improves speeds maybe a dedicated VDU chip (or FPGA) could be used across all Amiga like systems as common hardware means reliable software and faster time to market.
I'm sure a few ex Commodore engineers could help brainstorm future directions for hardware.

Amiga.com is up! Maybe you meant 'When will Amiga.com show something more informational than a mysterious, friendly message?'

| There was a question during the Thursday video about graphics driver, it sounds like what was presented required the P96 Driver Development Kit, and that is freely available from Jens, with include files and documentation...
I had wondered for some time, since some graphics things had been merged into graphics.library, if the driver API has changed or not, but never seen anything about it. Is the P96 API still the intended API for driver development in OS4.1+?
