Ahh it's short and small so while it can't support a monitor it can support my can of Jolt or bottle of Bawls.

Hi wegster,

Instant shutdown is excellent.

The only RAM: disk I've found for xp, (no wait, actually it was for win98), is commercial, there's no way I'm paying $40 for how awful it worked, and was written in visual basic. It was NOTHING like the Amiga experience.

Anyhow, if I'm "The Last Amigan", sobeit, but I think that title I would have to fight tooth and nail for against 20,000 other rabid fans.

AmigaOne! AOS4.0! And who else has a RAD:?

Then what are you going to do with the cup holder on the front of your tower that pops out when you press the button?

For the first time MS screwed over Intel. No new Windows 64 bit for their chip.

A small revenge would exist among the ex-Digital Equipment Corp employee lines. Intel?s would be defined as the principle entity that destroyed DEC.

Intel says their Itanium 64-bit chip is a server chip.

Itanium Dearfield was desktop bound chip.

Quote:

It's a different command set then the Pentium or AMD x86. Microsoft said that Win XP 64-bit will not come out for Itanium. Win XP is positioned as a desktop OS. The server OS, Win2K3 Server EditionS, are still in the works for the server chip, Intel Itanium. No screwing over here. Just not making a desktop OS for a processor that's not intended for the desktop.

MS wouldn?t release a Windows 2K3 Server HPC Edition for Itanium in the near future...

To this day, MS still self funds MIPS and ARM based CPUs with their Windows CE(basic legacy free Windows NT). Itanium versions are partly funded by Intel.

It's a very nice place to store a slice of bread with strawberry jam on it

Well, ummm....Amiga hasn't really produced their own computer...they repackaged another companies board. At least if the Mini Mac (or similar) was used, the pricing would be more competitive off the bat, AND the hardware would likely be more stable, faster....and could actually make them some $ (or via the XBox2 route)

If they then 'disallowed' OS X running on these, I'd still wager that Linux would run on it soon enough regardless....so same game as now- Linux or AOS.

RE: Dual booting.

Ok, let's see...I've got umm, around 8 systems plus two laptops currently (most are servers, but not all). My Linux boxes are Linux boxes, no dual booting Windows. My FreeBSD box has no Windows. One laptop is gentoo linux only, the other (from work) was repartitioned on day 1 to run Linux- the only thing stopping me from shrinking the Windows partition into oblivion for permanent removal is a weekend of tweaking to get their VPN working with Linux. May not be the norm I guess, but the only 'for Windows' box is the gaming system, and it dual boots into Linux.

Well, it's kind of cute, but does it save desktop space? I mean, if it were a little wider, you could set your monitor on top of it or if it were a bit less wide, it would take up less room on the side of the monitor. So I guess in the right instance it may save space, but for me probably not much. It looks OK, but again, nothing ground breaking.

The thing weighs 3 pounds. velcro it to your wall and be done with it

there is hardly a company in the world that can still produce a computer. Computers are all made in Taiwan by 14 year old girls working in sweatshops.

Apple doesn't even make the mac mini, its contracted out.

I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make, but if you aren't a prebuscent girl then don't bother!

@wegster

well if you buy two of them, jointly they can probably hold the monitor up. As for me, I'll have to buy 3, cause I'll need a 3rd to wedge under the table leg.

Heh, kids have no imagination these days.

Velcro it to the back of the monitor. With a wireless keyboard and mouse, people will wonder where the HECK the computer is!

(NOTE - I have no idea how old wegster is. I hope the above is kind of a compliment )

That's just an example of good business sense. MS sees MIPS and ARMs as needed CPU's for their reach into small devices. Thus, if you want your company to go in a direction you fund it.

Itanium is where Intel wants to go. Microsoft already has server CPU's in the Xeon line and AMD lines, no need to expand there. So, why fund another one if you can get Intel to foot the bill?

I'm aware of that, but there is still a difference in that or selling Mac hardware as amigas, as the Macs are from one of the real competitiors. Also I doubt Apple would sell them without software, making them not that much cheaper than the AOne anyway (except for the US market).

@ALL

it seems that apple are riding the latest and greatest wave into the future
and are taking big chunks of the pc world onboard with them
every where i look these days in the business market is the white screens driven by apple

even in our government departments now

looks like the windows era is coming to the end !!!!

Unless the last year was a major change in the last year. Apple's marketshare has decreased. Even if it increased I'm dubious 'big' is accurate.

I see Apple in 2 places, primarily, first is graphic design shops. The second kiosks. It seems what's preceived as a pretty design is what companies like to place out front for visitors and use in their display booths but go to the desktops and they're PCs.

One could only hope.

However, the majority, if not all, market indicators are opposite. Windows is well entrenced to say the least.

I've been hearing that for years now... Either BeOS, Linux or Apple was going to take down the mighty Microsoft...

IIRC, certain German Cities were going Linux instead of upgrading to WinXP/2003

Most X86 boxes sold with Linux were formatted and installed an illegal Windows version.

I believe it when Windows market share get's below 90%..

If you have an up to date PC it will also toast it for you... Unfortunatly this doesn't work for PPC's.
