| The title says it all. Is there a picture viewer for OS4 that will animated GIF images? It would be nice if it were OS4 native but a 68k version that works on OS4 would be acceptable. _________________ Kevin - X1000 First Contact / A1222+ |

You should have a docky that will do this for you.
Check "Anim.docky" in SYS:tools/dockies/ |

Hmmm....I had forgotten about this but it's not quite what I'm looking for as it has to be in the doc. Thanks for reminding about it though.

@thomas PicShow can show animations, too. It doesn't care about correct timings, though.

Hmmm...I have PicShow in my doc and I like it a lot. I never relized it could would animated GIF's, so I went back and tried it. Unfortunatly it doesn't seem to work quite right with the GIF I'm trying to view. I load the picture, which displayes statically just fine but when I select "Action/amimation/forward" from the menu a white box is displayed on the picture with what I think are supposed to be the animated parts of the picture that seem to be moving but the coloring and scaling seem to be wrong.
The GIF is a small 169x169x6 picture of a rino that is supposed to wiggle his ear, stomp his foot and maybe wiggle his tail or something. It displayed fine on my PC system at work but doesn't seem to work right with PicShow. Am I doing something wrong?
I could send it to you via email if you want to check it out. PM me if your intrested.

Er... if all fails, you can still use the web browser...
There is a gif anim datatype on Aminet, but I don't know if it works in OS4. It's 68K too, so... _________________ And may the AmigaGuide you!

Hmmm.......I tried that with AWeb but it brought it up in the external viewer. Maybe I should try disabling the external viewer or try IBrowse.

Now that you mention it, I think I had this running on my old A3000. I'll have to give it a shot.
Thanks for the ideas.
Anyone else have any suggestions?_________________ Kevin - X1000 First Contact / A1222+ |

Could you please send this GIF anim to my email address.
If you've got OS3.9 or OS3.5 with boingbags, there is a program called AnimatedIcon in Sys:Utilities. It shows GIF anims as an icon on the desktop.
BTW, once you installed the gifanim.datatype, PicShow and AnimatedIcon will no longer be able to show GIF anims.
Bye, Thomas

More than ten years ago I wrote a program precisely for this purpose: show animated GIF images, with the correct timing, even preserving the correct image aspect ratio, if possible. Since at that time just about every other GIF viewer was easily tripped up by GIF images which "bent" the rules of how the data looked like, I also tried to make my program as robust as possible. At the time, it managed to plow through an entire 600 MByte CD of GIF images without crashing.
You can find it on Aminet in the gfx/show directory; it's called "ViewGIF". The source code is included, so while this is a 68k program, somebody could port it to OS4 |

Oh! Just remembered! You could try Personal Paint too! It's on Aminet. There is a script in a separate archive, also on Aminet, which loads and saves GIF animations. So if it's a dodgy anim you might try and save it again (if it loads). Search for "paint gif" and you'll find a few files. _________________ And may the AmigaGuide you!
