As some AmigaWorld.net regulars may know, the community seems to revisist some forum topics on a regular basis. Every now and then, discussion threads are being started that address issues that have been dealt with in the past - albeit with a different approach. Some discussions of these discussions are highly sensitive, generating a lot of heat, while others are more relaxed and generally more enjoyable. Maybe I don't hang out enough here, but I actually like most of the topics you post, especially the legal updates & the suggestion to port AmigaOS to ARM.

The one I like least is the series of political / culture war discussions where everyone involved is really just embarrassing themselves, including me when I'm dumb enough to be baited.

What I'd like to see are more posts on actual hardware / software, such as Apollo / Vampire, who seem to be the only group actually producing anything. Though they don't seem to want to take it in a direction I'd like to see it go. Of course, I could just take it up over there, but at some point I get tired of joining forums.

i vote for "something else" but i hate all topics that does not belong here or have been done thousands of times before.
Topics related to amiga but about browsers are possible even worse, just use chrome as any sane person would do and forget about outdated browsers :D

I'm grateful that both the morphos & the aros project is nearly dead so that posts about them are rare, just a handfull of stubborn fanboys that keep us updated about their hobby.

2021 will hopefully be a great year for nice topics.
I'm sure the vampireteam and other keyplayers in the amigaworld will unite us and give us lots of good stuff to discuss.
ATM there is only one good topic out of 10 in the recent list ;(

I am not a MorphOS user but I think it was supposed to be the successor to OS3 but the deal went south - so perhaps MorphOS is more Amiga than OS4?

Anyway I voted "other" to include OS4 SMP support and Playstation porting threads. One that hasn't been resurrected for a while is the Nibiru one - that must be due an outing soon?

MorphOS is entirely written from the ground up. In the early days it mainly consisted of the kernel, 68k emulation and a number of other elements but relied on an install of 3.x to become a functional OS. A deal with Amiga Inc would have allowed them ship MorphOS supplemented with OS3.x binaries in the near term and access to OS3.x source to be ported to PPC in the long term. After a deal was not reached the MorphOS team were forced to replace all OS3.x functionality with their own native code.

With OS4 you have a kernel written from the ground up plus 68 emulation and so on but the legacy parts of the OS are ported from the OS3.1 source code. Similar to what MorphOS would have been if they had come to an agreement with Amiga Inc.
