@amigakit

It just got even better.

I would also like to know if you plan on selling it as a complete package with casing and all

“accelerator†options - this means a different Orange Pi?

I wonder which, not that many Orange Pis share the"old" 26+13 pin-layout of the Pi Zero 3, so some adapter would be needed. Going forward, it looks like Orange Pi is going the same direction that Raspberry Pi went, by using a 40 pin GPIO.

It's the Linux system that has proper I/O and ethernet though, not the Amiga.. eh Amibench, which I suspect just uses bsdsocket.library emulation of AmiBerry.

@kolla and @OneTimer1

I'm just setting up AMiNIMiga 212 with all this good networking stuff baked in! Since Napalm has been proved to run on THEA500 Mini at '060/66 with RTG' speeds in high res on the latest AGS and even copper/blitter ragging games like Reshoot Proxima 3 work with some tweaking, I fail to see how much faster we need to push these Arm based solutions?! It all seems "serious" enough! I can't wait for the proper Warp3D driver for the RPi4/CM4 PiStorms!

@BigD

True, for 99% of Amiga setup and Apps, Pi3/A500mini/A600GS/A1200NG speeds will be fast enough.

However, I had Amikit XE running on Pi400, (already nearly twice the speed of above systems) and again most thing were fine, but it mainly when it came to me wanting to multitask, Rabbit hole apps, one thing I do like doing is listen to my playlist on Spotify while I work on my Amiga, there was a few times this caused a drop, and Youtube vids in the corner wouldnt play smoothly, was also another slight hit to desktop performance.

I since got a Pi5 that pretty much fixs this. Now I just wished a few JIT 68K bugs could be fixed, as it still crashes a few Hollywood based apps and I had a hard crash just working in Hollywood designer, it might the program, but i found it very reliable in WinUAE setup. So I guess there something in ARM 68k code that crashed it.

Also more power is handy for 3d packages and faster usb speeds and hard drive access is like I said are usually a nice befit of newer hardware.

Also on my PC, which has AMD 78003d / NVIDIA RTX 2080 / M.2 SSD 7,000mbps, which is massive overkill, it can still be fun running Amikit XE on this system, its is crazy fast! it really does show me/give me a Next Generation feel in performance.

Some great software development this week for the A1200NG. The triple case LEDs can be software controlled - even the power light can be dimmed. The built in Greaseweazle floppy controller and keyboard controller can be firmware upgraded by our Updates download server whenever we develop new firmware. Thank you Keir Fraser

@amigakit

No shade, but is the A1200NG the largest Pi HAT out there?
I sense that it is, and that earns it extra cool points.

It seems to be Orange Pi path.

A1200NG mounted in Commodore case with floppy disk drive and cabling. HDMI cable runs underneath floppy drive to backplate. www.a1200ng.com

@amigakit

Exciting stuff. Have you thought about offering a full A1200NG kit that would include a wedge case with keyboard and power supply? I would certainly buy such an offering.

@amigakit

I'd like to know how it compares to a real A1200?

1) Is the serial port totally integrated with Workbench/AmiBench for serial devices inc. graphics tablets, MIDI adapters and null modem stuff?
2) Does the 2 x 9-pin and 2 x USB port setup operate like the A1200s 2 x 9pin for 1UP and 2UP plus 4 player adapter in parallel port (3UP and 4UP) if configured as such?

I'm just wondering. It looks like a neat solution.

I guess it's up to us to test what it's capable of doing? That's quite difficult if you'd like to know prior to buying though. Luckily my A1200 is holding up at present.

When I see the board almost entirely devoid of components I feel a bit sad. It seems like it should have a big fat FPGA or two on there.

I suppose it's cleaner and more anchored than a collection of small boards connected with ribbon cables.

I just noticed that port 1 for 2 player 9-pin controller usage is an additional extra! Remember to tick that option if that is important to you! So it's sub-£200 with certain caveats!

Above is a good review of recent developments. There's some annoying sound issues but a good review nonetheless.

I agree. Throw an FPGA or at a minimum a worthy 68k CPU on there somewhere.

Connected how, superglue?

For what it's worth, this is an I/O board, one can in principle use it together with for example a MiSTer. However, that product exists already, the MiSTress 1200.
