  Further development of OS3.x? Unbelievable...

Changes are minor. Some nice (scsi.device update), some not (ugly BoingBall logo instead of nice checkmark ).

Edit: According to Olaf Barthel (on EAB), he rendered that logo from BoingBall demo code. Cool. Still, I like checkmark more (for 3.x). Last edited by pavlor on 13-Oct-2016 at 06:34 PM.

  | 10 Euro for logo and new background? Really? xD Any... I repeat - ANY minor patch released by fellows of our community (i.e. PeterK, Cosmos etc.) in last 10 years is far more useful than this ...and it's free.
Guys, I got no problem with paying for software for the Amiga, but do something worth it!

  | Nice.
  I don't like this tho:

You're paying for the license, not the updates. It's just the same as if you buy Amiga Forever or Cloanto's disk sets or the physical ROMs that are sold by both Cloanto and Hyperion's dealers. |

if Hyperion wants to make money from it, more power to them. Up until this point, the only source for a valid OS copy was Cloanto. _________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |

Yea, but i'm not interested in ROMs at all. However I'd be really happy, if Hyperion releases any cool/worthful and official update for OS3.x. Who if not THEM? Last edited by arti040 on 13-Oct-2016 at 07:38 PM.

  | Isn't Cloanto the only legal owner of 1.x to 3.1? I kind of doubt this release is really legal.

"If you can't beat them, join them"? Or merely another phone bill or domain renewal that is due, and no money from OS4 sales since a few years, so they collect whatever they can from wherever they can? Squeeze out the last drops?
The underlying reason doesn't really matter though, and I don't really care about what names the copyright mentions (that part can be ignored easily enough, I could live with that), but from a preservation/retro point of view (which is the entire point of Workbench 3.1 today), I think the "upgrades" in Cloanto's 3.1 version is a lot more subtle and a lot more easy to accept.
This one in particular is outright offensive IMHO:
  Quote:
  | Added the Boingball logo which replaces the rainbow-coloured checkmark logo. |

That part really destroys it IMHO. It's also a sign that they just don't know what it's about, that they don't know the product they are trying to shift.
Maybe it can be "patched" back? But then again, why bother with this at all, instead of going with the original from the beginning? Big FAIL!
I think everyone understands how and why the multi-thousand-euro Amigaone/AmigaOS4 market was saturated and diminished years ago. No money there, obviously. And it's obvious that the Amiga/Workbench retro and nostalgia scene is as strong as ever (maybe the C64 scene is bigger though?), and new products are even coming. But it would have been much nicer and a lot more interesting to see Hyperion announcing a credible push into post-PPC, real NG territories for OS4, like the MorphOS Team is doing.
And if this is what they will make Individual Computers bundle with the Commodore A1200 Reloaded, then I'll have to request a removal of this unwanted OEM and a lowered price at the time of purchase. I believe consumers has that right, at least in the EU? I'm not paying for something I won't use. |

It was called OS4.x. Only for Amigaone/PPC though. Doesn't run on Amiga 68k. The newest published official update for that platform, is the Workbench 3.X (note the capital X). ROM's available as well.

That is cloanto's claim and I tend to believe it...

...but, Hyperion have license from the settlement agreement, which is almost certainly still valid, and the new copyright notice on the early boot screen specifically says "developed under license".

  | Cloanto's version doesn't have workbench.library inside of rom. I makes some problems in certain situations.
With good version of scsi.device and fast file system inside of ROM solves a lots of problems. Think! You could pick ANY ide drive and it just works. No hasling with old and small ide drives, or trying to find bigger drive wich works that much that you can actually install it.
