| I am crazy about what a computer looks like. That may be why I have been using Macs for so long. I digg various styles and been wondering what this special Amiga X1000 case will end of looking like.
So, I ask, do you all have an idea of what case floats your boat? And.... what kind of case do you thing X1000 will actually have.
What floats my boat, CUBES. Don't know why but I digg Cubes like the NeXTcube from NeXT Computer and then the Apple G4 Cube. I own a G4 Cube and did long ago have a NeXTcube also.
So, I would digg a nice 10" perfect square black and dark grey Amiga X1000 that has the CD/DVD either pop out a slit in front or out the top like the G4 cube. hehehe. Of course have the Boing Ball logo on it also nice and big to be proud owner of an Amiga.
I don't like slabs much nor all-in-one like the old 1200s with keyboard and all in one case. I like super slots so I can add all sorts of cars as I see fit. Add more squirrels to the inside to give me more power like add more XMOS cards.
Anyway, what is your dream case and what do you think the X1000 will have?

well it would have to be an ATX case, as isn't the board, from what I can see in the photo, ATX?
So you either go desktop or mid tower I guess. Or a larger tower.
But also I think it will be sold as a complete system with case...so you may have no choice :) _________________ AmigaOS 4.x Beta Tester - Classic Amiga enthusiast - http://www.hd-zone.com is my Amiga Blog, check it out! |

| I am a bit smitten with this new ATX case also. Other than it costing $800+. . It is ATX so maybe someone could have the next X1000 in this BMW designed case. Definitely, a very out their design but I rather like it.

I still miss the A3000 case. It was a revolution compared to the ugly PC boxes when it came out. So sleek and clearly *designed* as opposed to just a drab box to stuff the hardware in.

I also loved the A1200 design back then for a small/simple machine.
But these days I might be inclined to agree with you about a cube, especially given that CRT's are all but dead. Size wise a cube isn't likely to work well for a full size board like the X1000, though - or it'd be a *huge* cube.

The NeXTcube was a 12" square. That would work for me and sit beside it a sweet 30" LCD screen.
The G4 Cube was really small and just under 8" so maybe a 12" could work. Or a sweet tower but you see bagillions of towers in the work but hardly ever perfect cubes.
I say make it stick out so it gets noticed.
Maybe there is some new design they can take it. A Pyramid maybe. Or Globe. hehehe.

TBH, IMHO, I believe it would be awesome if they came up with a smallish case. I dont like the x86 junk that fills up the trunk in one shot.
What I am saying is, Look at the PS3 slimline and how compact it is.
Look at SAM440EP and its potential to be in seriously small cases.
OK,
ANother thing that is a must for me, if they want to legitamtely sell AMiga computers sets, these sets should include a MODERN Amiga Keyboard(so boing balls as its AMiga keys, not shetty windows keys)
As for the mouse, not fussed with mouse, as we seem to have a choice there to be able to get something that does not have a F'n MS logo on it. Thats why I like LogiTech and the like.
BUT
IF the designers are reading this thread, then listen up
AMIGA KEYBOARD please with the X1000 and its Amiga Boinged Case.
Thank you. _________________ Courtesy of SAM440Flex & Amiga OS4.1 only Flex is 800mhz A1000 with Classic 520 Amiga OS3.2.1 AmiKit 12 MorphOS PowerBook G4 (which can play youtube vids)

| This is quite nice

Also in red which might be better..

Anyway, let's not get too carried away here. I doubt they'll have the cash to offer anything but a generic PC case with a boing sticker and they might even just sell the motherboard.......naked. |

Simple, relatively small, and low-key. If it looks like a case modder's wet dream or something designed by a special needs child, e.g. the Amiga Walker, I'm out. Let's hope the case designer is someone well versed in both contemporary art and industrial design. The last thing I want to see is a circa 1995 3D flying logo with a boing ball painted on the side--you know, what every Amiga fan seems to think is the bomb. _________________ Sam440ep-flex 733 MHz/1 GB RAM/Radeon 9250/AmigaOS4.1 Update 2 borked A1200/Blizzard1260+SCSI-IV/Z4+MediatorZIV/Deneb/Voodoo3/CatweaselMk3 more borked A1200/MBX1200z/Indivision A500/clockport/RRNet A600/A603 |

| @MacSociety,
I would really like to see three 5.25" External bays and one 3.5" bay. Gotta have that CatWeasel.

 Vacuum cleaner.
 Space heater.
 Picnic basket.
It's so much easier to ridicule than it is to make ones own suggestions.
I do wonder what type of case the X1000 will have, but I've never been that picky about computer cases. My preference is for something that is designed for easy access to the internals. I've used cases before that make something as simple as adding RAM a chore, and usually result in hands bleeding due to poorly finished edges. Plus, it needs to the Amiga logo somewhere.
Hans
EDIT: Out of these three, my preference would be for the "space heater."

I have a Lian-Li PC-A77. If you want a full tower in aluminum it rocks. Doesn't look like some alien spacecraft. Priced accordingly, though.

Also comes in black. Last edited by gregthecanuck on 21-Jan-2010 at 06:40 AM.

I like the MCC design. Even without the monitor, the desktop alone looks nice and simple.

If I was building a new top-end-ish Amiga I would be talking with Lian-li about cases.
The aluminum cases are easily customizable.
In large enough volumes (not a chance in the beginning) you could start getting nice custom case designs.
Cheers! |
