| Hi guys
Well, after happy receiving SAM460ex from you guys, I couldnt wait it for arrive.
So, nearly 3 months later SAM finally arrived in onc piece, looking great!
Well now comes my problems:
- I bought midi tower case - I bought a cooler and power for Tower Case - I got Keyboard and a Mouse - and 60GB SSD HD :)
So I am prepared for a ride.
Nut this ride wont start, now it is the 4th day :(
Over 10 old Amigans tried to install machine but it just wont boot from HD.
PLEASE take a look at "AmigaBootingNOT.zip"
http://www.djnick.rs/examples/AmigaBootingNOT.zip
This is step by step shapshotted in qick from iPhone...
Steps 1-10 are all possible combonations + tons of reboots...
After image 17.jpg AmigaOS4 boots and then take a look at:
image18 abd 19 are having problems with
ASSIGN: Can't find "RAM:T/"
Then more T: assigns and problems starts appearing, but wieh click 30 times CANCEL - there is a chance to boot into the AmigaOS4 but: resolution will be 640x480 [or similar, cant see as I have 24" full hd monitor.
My friends tried everything, I believe some of them works 10 years in IT industry, they only had headaches/
Everything seems simople:
You boot from USB HD selecting BootDevice1 [as fare as I understand - flash with OS4.1 installation is on flash named at USB HD in boot selector.
Then go esc and save settings and reboot.
then installation of OS4 should start - but it just wont happen.
We really have no ideas WHY all this hard happens...
HELP me explaining step by step HOW to boot AmigaOS4 from your Memory Flash I got in SAM
Hwo else? I formattedf HD, installed default Os4 preset and I got 3 partitions: 1 HD0 called Workbench, 2.nd is SWAP one and 3rd is WORK: 4th I can see is SSD OS4 too.
What to do?
All best Nick, day 4th... _________________ nykk | deetronic.rs | youtube.com/djnykk | gfx.river | mamavolibebu.com |

So you got a memory card with installed 4.1? That's the one you could boot from?
You're using the onboard sata2 for the ssd drive? Remembered to set workbench as bootable?
Might be stupid questions, but trying to just find out things. Saw the photos aswell. _________________ I'm an antique. Don't light my fuse |

if you are booting from the onboard SATA you will have to enable the "sam460sata.device" line in the Kickstart/Kicklayout file .
MODULE Kickstart/sam460sata.device.kmod
and that the device is in your Kickstart directory.

Yes and after AmigaOS 4.1 image passes - it starts writing this:
AmigaDOS Process: 6 Please insert volume T: in any drive
Process: "AddDatatypes"
Retry | Assign | Mount | Cancel
What then? After clicing cancel I can see Workbench in 640x480 with lots of errors.
The biggesst problem is: I have just ONE SataHD connector [with ONE HD in it], seems like System is all well installed. But after rebooting, looks like StartupSequence is corrupted or not well writen... :(
I will now have to try to disable HD and leave SD Card and insert OS4 CDRom...
I can have only one thing conneted: HD, DVD or FlashCard
But lklke I said - seems like OS4 is now on HD on DH0: as Workbench. SWAP is second one and third is empty Work:.
Maybe I can manylly edit SstartupSeqs and fix problems? This looks like a beta version to me. Not usef friendly at all. _________________ nykk | deetronic.rs | youtube.com/djnykk | gfx.river | mamavolibebu.com |

are you trying to boot the SSD with the SD card connected as well ?.
Also Thinkchip had loads of problems with a SSD and onboard SATA port. He could not get it to work . Last edited by Spectre660 on 31-Mar-2012 at 11:14 PM.

Also when leave out iOS SD card and go to boot menuy and try ANY other option, I got error:
AOS4 FLB FLB: no SLb found in any of the deisgnated boot sources; returning to u-booot. Press any key to coninue.
O am thinking - maybe I need to set INSTALL or choose AOS boot menu or something...
Who will expect soo many problems!? _________________ nykk | deetronic.rs | youtube.com/djnykk | gfx.river | mamavolibebu.com |

You need to instal SLB on the SSD using Media toolbox for the SD card System drawer. you also need to make it bootable form the partition options in the media toolbox. You may also need to set some UBoot variables to have on board SATA as a boot option.

How to install SSB on SSD?? I am not that expert...
Step by step, plaese. When I select device to use, I got:
sam460ex.device and usbdisk.device
Which one to sleect 1st and WHAT exactly to click.
There is EdiT RDB - should I install.read configuration, should I install AmigaOne boot code (SLB) which is at my disk:
l:slb_v2. 29036 byttes, ver 1.19.
Insall? Remove? Save to file???
Sorry but as end user I have NO CLUE what to do now?!
Filesystem: Which FFS to use? DH0: is DOS\17, SWAP is SWAP amd DH1: is 46gb, DOS\07
iPhone 2G was hacking, but I didnt expect soo much troubles with installing SAM... :( _________________ nykk | deetronic.rs | youtube.com/djnykk | gfx.river | mamavolibebu.com |

Ok now obviously install OS4.1 in 640x480, looks like it is 256 colours mode [on my 24" monitor].
It i snow ~25%. When it comes to 100% - I will reboot but WHAT then to do to BOOT from HardkDisk?
1st partition DH0: or named Workbench: is not booting - keeps displaying RAM:T missing assigns etc. but hitting 30 times CANCEL I can see OS4 loader and also I can start a bit in mini resolution OS4 that even don`t have support for gfx card [I diidn`t see dropshadows etc], but just let me first install OS4 on fresh 60GB HD and see what next.
I am tired, I will go and sleep after I wait 10 mins more to OS41 installation finishes... _________________ nykk | deetronic.rs | youtube.com/djnykk | gfx.river | mamavolibebu.com |

There are a couple of problems that you could have even if you do everything right.
First your Uboot version needs to be at least UBoot 2010.06.04 or newer to properly use the onboard SATA.
Second you need to enable thhe following in the Kickstart/Kicklayout file if it is not enabled : MODULE Kickstart/sam460sata.device.kmod and that the device is in your Kickstart directory.
Third some SSDS may not work with the onboard SATA device.

Either you have corrupted you SD card or OS4 is loading kickstart from the SD card then trying to boot from the SSD.

If youd do a fresh install on another harddrive the use SFS/02 as the partition types except SWAP.dont use DOS7

First thing you need to do is boot with the SDcard without the SSD or harddrive attached. Once you can get to the OS 4.1 Workbench open a shell and check your Uboot version by doing an Nvgetvar command.
Then check the Kickstart/Kicklayout file to see if the line MODULE Kickstart/sam460sata.device.kmod exists (without a ; in front)
then check for the file sam460sata.device.kmod in the Kickstart drawer .

I'm the one that Spectre660 linked to in post #7. What I concluded is that you will know right away if your hard drive will work because it just will. If you have problems it probably never will work. Also if you're having trouble booting from your SD card be sure the first boot device in uboot is USBHD. The SD slot is handled by the USB contoller. The SD card is writable so you have to be careful of any changes. I got a 3-1/2-inch Samsung HD and it worked immediately without any problem. Another solution is get one of the supported PCI SATA interface cards. It could be that a future version of the driver for the onboard SATA port will solve some of the problems. _________________ X5000 / microA1(OS4.1 FE U2) / CodeBench / Imagine / Blender Lightwave 2019 / Microsoft Visual C++ |

I started for the 1st time WB OS4.1 witout problems but by booting from DVDRom [dvdrom OR HD].
What a limitation... You can play only from CDRom [Flash 32gb I intended to use as System instaler from its Flash to my one, but seems OS4 does not support or recognize 32gb flashes, even they are fat 32 formatted.
I think there is no way I can install from SDFlash to HD because something is seems corrupted.
I wil wait for a week or two until I get from a friend that cable that will available me connecting HD and CDRom on the same time. Without one of them iis total nonsense.... Installation just wont work :(
Playing 4 days with it, without success, and many my friends helped me - defiinitelly I expected it to be a bit more user friendly.... OS4 need lots of work... but really lots of work... _________________ nykk | deetronic.rs | youtube.com/djnykk | gfx.river | mamavolibebu.com |

I don't have a SAM460, but in the A1 & X1000 Startup-Sequence I have the following line;
MakeDir RAM:T RAM:Clipboards
Assign >NIL: T: RAM:T
Is the SAM460 S-S different?

Ok. You have the latest Sam460ex uboot so one possible problem eliminated. If you were able to boot to workbench from the SD card without the Ram: t Assign error message then the SD Card is ok and the problem is with the Setup of the SSD.
