| So, this December I am going to get my new Amiga. Even if it kills me.. I have not had a real Amiga in over 30 years and have only limited time with emulators.
So, now the burning question... Tabor or x5000. At this time I am not considering cost. I know the Tabor is supposed to be cheaper. It may or may not be only 2 weeks away.
But, if come December and I have a choice between the two. I don't really understand the difference with regard to performance. I just don't know enough about the architecture.
So, I am hoping to gain some knowledge as to what type of performance differences there are between the two so that I can make the right choice for myself when the time arrives.
Thanks for any information.
Donald
Also, where to buy? I am in the USA and when I was looking at AOTL and couldn't find x5000 I emailed them. In their response I was asked to give them my phone number so they could explain the situation. That sent up all kinds of red flags for me. Either they sell what I want to buy or they don't. There really isn't any need to provide them my phone number so they can tell me why the don't have it.

Tabor has cca 2/3 of integer performance of the X5000. However, its CPU is crippled by design and all FPU requiring applications (eg. 3D games) will be much slower.
Both can use PCIe GFX, support USB2.0 etc. The X5000 is available now, nobody knows, when (if...) Tabor is released.
My intention is to buy Tabor once available and do as many benchmarks as possible. |

I'm really not a gamer so I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes for me. I guess it really depends on cost. If the x5000 "that" much more I will go with it. If Tabor is 1/2 the price of x5000 then Tabor would probably win. I do wish some of the other specs were better. The no USB3.0 kind of really bothers me in 2019. But itsn't enough to deter me from buying one. |

We don´t know Tabor price yet, but I expect it will be close to 500 USD range. |

What do you want USB3 for? For external disk drives? An internal SSD is a better proposition.
If, like me, you like to program, then you won't need much horsepower from your new Amiga. The Tabor has built-in graphics and sound, which I can confidently say, will be supported. It also has two (count 'em) Ethernet ports and a good performance at integer tasks like editing, compiling and file handling. You will even have a spare PCI-e slot unless you want HD graphics or several disk drives. It boots fast and it flies.
Its weakness is its floating point performance with legacy software (some system components have been compiled with native SPE code to get best results). We have a top-notch FP emulation system. I can't give you any figures, but its FP performance is on a par with the Sam 440EP (IIRC).
The Cyrus X-50x0 beats it by a mile, of course. If you like to play high-performance games with lots of floating point, then the Tabor is not for you.

On one hand I find the whole "What do you want USB3 for?" annoying. It's 2019 and why wouldn't I want to have the latest technology? But, Like I said it isn't a deal breaker and will not stop me from buying one.
All the other information is great. Exactly what I needed. It does seem a Tabor will do me good. Put that in one of the new Checkmate 1500 cases, and I'm in heaven. Provided Tabor is released before Christmas. I've been waiting for it for years.
Thanks.

Nice! Native e500v2 compiled lame had similar performance under Linux on Tabor (cca 600 MHz G3 or 800 MHz 460EX), so this emulation system must be really good! |

I like the latest and greatest too.. but ask yourself? How many 3.0 devices do you have? I only have one usb stick (a gift).
And I like the X5000! It has more options to play with.. more usb connections, more slots, pci and pci-e, also two ethernet ports
and it's faster with a great graphics card, and with the Aeon HD drivers better IMO (grin)
Come to AmiWest2019 (see sacc dot org) in October. I 'll show off my x5000 for you!

If cost is no consideration, X5000 is the way to go. It's more powerful, there is actual experience with the board already and last not least it is not only supprted by OS4, but also by MorphOS (which Tabor is not and will not).
I would avoid the non standard cpu of the Tabor - the actual impact of the incompabilities is unknown yet, but it's a not too far streched assumption that it will be not helpful in regard of compability and speed...._________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

You make an excellent point. I actually don't mind USB 2.0. I realize this is a niche product. I just get irritated when people try to make it sound like being behind 10 years in tech is just no big deal. |

I hate big-box computers, so upon hearing the news of Tabor I was quite sure I'd get one. Unfortunately, the Tabor got delayed due to some missing components on the software side, and instead an X5000 came my way courtesy of A-EON. I've got used to its performance very quickly, and the added horsepower saves me a lot of compilation time. Still, I'll be getting a Tabor when it finally comes out, to replace my ageing Sam440. It's great to have one Amiga at home and another one at work

The bank account probably suggests using MorphOS. For about 200 $/EUR you get a nice and powerful registered system, even a mobile one. I am very happy with my MorphOS-Powerbook since quite some years now and can fully hearted suggest this route.

Happy X5000 owner here. I was recently able to get some dedicated space and have been enjoying setting it up and learning OS4 programming. I decided to buy a system that was available now, and not wait.
I think there's a legal situation with the AmigaOne name going on. I've met Aaron and Jeff from Amiga on the Lake... they're a pleasure to deal with. I suggest you give them a call and talk to them. |

| On this wiki: http://wiki.amiga.org/index.php?title=X5000
It talks about the x5000 mobo being available in two variants. One being the X5000/020 and the other being X5000/040.
But I have never seen the X5000/040 for sale anywhere. Anyone know anything? |
