The 2nd quote is mine. ... I haven't heard about the QuadPPE 32SPE Cell. I did hear of Tobshiba's PPE+4SPE smaller Cell. Personally I don't see Sony dropping the Cell for another architecture. Thinking of this more perhaps their answer is to modernize the PS3. Sony could have a 2012 console too. PS3.5 -- take the current Cell and bring it down to 32nm and bring the clock up to 6Ghz, add a bit more memory, and throw in a modern GPU. |
Toshiba's SpursEngine doesn't have a PPE i.e. it uses the host's CPU i.e. in this case it's Intel Core 2 Duo. SpursEngine is enhanced with fixed function hardware._________________ Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB Amiga 1200 (Rev 1D1, KS 3.2, PiStorm32lite/RPi 4B 4GB/Emu68) Amiga 500 (Rev 6A ECS, KS 3.2, PiStorm/RPi 3A+/Emu68) |

I wouldn't want Philips to be Nintendo that's for sure, over 120 thousand less employed people despite execs being able to add extra millions onto their bank accounts.
Nintendo is a great gaming company, but only that. The scope of Nintendo's products is pretty limited. IMO it would be a waste of talent for a broad expertise company like Philips.
Sometimes you have to make huge investments and take some sacrifices to achieve something extraordinary. I don't think you will find many PS3 owners who would trade their PS3 with 10 blockbuster games for a Wii with 10 blockbuster games, the other way around I am certain there are a lot of people willing to do so. You should go across to GameSpot.com and stream some of the KILLZONE2 SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN mode footage available... In fact, they actually play/preview the game somewhat in one of the recent GameSpot shows, On The Spot...
GameSpot reviewers admitted that it has lived up to the hype, it is everything they expected... and I am sure, when we play it, everything we expected... get ready for what I think will be perfect 10 scores by many publications when it is released and reviewed within the industry...
I was part of the Beta, and it was the best FPS I have played... and that is after playing CoDIV and CoDV.

| I read that Sony will have to raise price on most of their products due to yen weakening. This will definitely not be good for the PS3. |

They are not raising PS3 prices, a cheaper slimline product is rumoured for 2009.
Reeves recently also told Dutch television their computer entertainment division will not be affected by the lay off of 8000 employees, they see games development as an important investment and likely to spend even more on R&D. |

IMO that's getting too old to be funny though.

"While these figures certainly indicate just how much shovelware is released on the Wii, and to a lesser extent the Xbox 360, leaving both systems with lower average scores than the PS3, Sony's machine came through where it matters, dominating the all-important 8.5 and above score range – both in terms of percentages and in raw numbers."

I think 2009 will be even better for the PS3 regarding quality games getting released and the 360 will fare a lot worse compared to this year.Last edited by MikeB on 18-Dec-2008 at 02:34 PM.

That's a bit skewed. If the PS3 got 3 releases this year and one of them was GTA4, then it would be 33%.
Also, BluRay was named one of the top 5 worst products of 2008 on some site. |

It was solid once you were in, the problem was more getting in at all. Lots of time outs trying to connect, the patch is to fix this problem and temporarily disabling in-home voice may save them some bandwidth.
The American version is a bit of a mess though, not the service itself but the amount of people misbehaving or otherwise being rude. |
