Funny you should say that as the road ahead for the 360 doesn't look too good.
I'm sure people will say similar things about the PS3. I think I laid out the HD problem with the market preception of the Wii. The 360 certainly has it's own issues. Parts of this post seem on and some off.

...PS3...more appealing 2008 line-up..
Alan Wake, Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Halo Wars, Lost Odyessy, GTA, Splinter Cell, DMC, GTA, Too Human, Huxley, Resident Evil, Star Wars, and possibly Gears 2 by Christmas. These are off the top of my head and some are multiplatform but if the line up is 'worse' it doesn't mean it's crap.

Well those were the words of the editor, not mine... Where's MikeB when you need him? On the PS3 off the top of my head: FF13, GT5, Little Big Planet, Home?, Condemned 2, Haze, Dark Sector, Dynasty Warriors 6, Turning Point, Karaoke Revolution, SingStar... Also, some of yours were cross-flatform - DMC, for instance.

As for the Wii:
Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Samurai Warriors: Katana, No More Heroes, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, Sega Bass Fishing and whatever 1st party stuff Nintendo had for Q4-08. I exclude alot of cross-platform stuff.

Reliability problems just won't go away
With time they may. It already appears that newer consoles are more reliable then launch consoles. Don't forget we saw a PS2 with various reliability issues along it's journey.

Hey, you don't have to tell me about that one...Nintendo quality FTW!

A fun game is a fun game and high resolution is but a feature, not a requirement for "fun" to be had
Strangely the 360 has the highest game ownership per console rate in the industry. I'm doubtful the average 7 games people own were bought because they are horrid. Resolution isn't THE feature it's A feature. It's a selling point the PS3 and 360 has over the Wii in the marketplace. Again doesn't mean the Wii won't work on the HDTV screens. I think the push for HD content Blu-Ray and Gaming will increase as HDTV increase. Seems you think more HDTVs mean more wins for the Wii. That's all cool.. Chrismas 09 or early 2010 will tell us which way the market went. I'm not the only one predicting the Wii to slow down.

Also note in previous posts I've stated I expect that Christmas 08 will be when the PS3 will catch up with the 360. The 360 should ship a Blu-Ray drive this year and price should be $99, IMO.

No, I just don't think the HDTV revolution will impact the Wii so much.
Luckily, MS is going to release a "motion" sensing add-on for their controllers...
Personally, I would love to see Nintendo release a second Wii sku with 2GB of internal flash instead of 512MB as well as DVD playing capabilities. If they expect their WiiWare titles to sell, 512MB will not cut it and swapping from external SD storage to internal is a pain right now. A simple firmware upgrade can fix this though.

If MS wants to get serious about continued sales, they should either lower their price points and integrate an HD-DVD drive to give the PS3 a bloody nose. Instead they play it safe and only keep one foot in the "format war". Much like their efforts in Japan, their efforts in the casual gamer market are sub-par.

I do agree with the article in that the worry is the 360's audience may only be slightly larger than the Xbox's. Going from 10million in sales to 7.7 the following year is not a good sign. Perhaps this is why they are looking to license the technology to Toshiba and let Toshiba market a high-end HD-DVD player that can also play 360 titles... Again, that market is niche...but it saves them face if it fails.

Sorry, I was commenting on the commentary you included. I did note some I included are cross platform as are yours such as Condemned2 and Dynasty Warriors 6. Also I thought the SquareEnix report didn't include FF13 for 08? Of course desireability is in the eye ofthe player.. Example Singstar But certainly 08 for the PS3 looks up compared to 07. Exactly what the PS3 needs is more and better games.

Dump HD and go Blu

Maybe they can convince Toshiba to ship the 360 free with their TVs as Sony shipped a PS3 free with theirs.

Gates Apology for the 360 reliability issues. He believes that extending the warranty and the improved service is the right direction. Gates states that their goal is that the 360 will be the most reliable console. All I can guess is he means the new models because if it's lifetime I think they already lost that one.

Atleast they work... Try blowing on an optical disc when it's scratched and see if that makes it work.

@Lou

As long as the scratches aren't too deep there are ways to fix discs..
CDs and DVDs anyway. It can be that HD DVD and Blu-ray discs are too
sensitive and can't be fixed. Anyway I handle my Blu-ray discs way more
carefully to be sure.

PS3 manufacturing cost per unit cut in half with the 40GB

Check out this link. It seems PS3 is not sold at a major loss since October.
The article even mentions going even by middle of 2008 according to plan.

Found myself a brand new sixaxis at the electronic recycling centre

It was inside a ps3 box with the label "demo" on it and it worked perfectly. The ps3 and cables was of course gone, but the sixaxis itself was still in plastic and it did not look used at all. It worked perfectly!
This is especially sweet as i only had one due to me buying the 40gig version.

Nice!

Yeah it's fun to play with friends or even girlfriends.
I bought a second controller about a month ago.

Me and my girlfriend play Virtua Tennis 3 together sometimes, she REALLY likes the
game. She can easily spend +3 hours straight playing.
Sometimes I have to drag her away kicking and screaming..

Great! Hirari recently stated he hopes Sony will make money for the PS3 in 2008. Obviously reducing costs has to be part of the plan.

@Thread
MikeB is currently banded. He mentioned to me Resistence2 is in the new .GameInformer Magainze.
8 player coop teams, 2 players per console, and up to 60 opponents online. Very nice looking and likely a must have FPS for the PS3

Xbox site XboxFamily.com has recently claimed to have been told about an Xbox360 version of ´Metal Gear Solid 4´ being in the works, citing an inside source with the game´s publisher.

Quote:
Speaking to a Konami rep at an undisclosed distribution meeting, I was told, after a lot of nagging, that yes indeed MGS was in development for the 360. The rep stated that Metal Gear Solid will be released for the Xbox 360 between 12 to 14 months after the PS3 version hits shelves. This is not a rumor.

...so it looks like a timed exclusive...

It's alot faster than previously been told. I think it was said before that in late 2009
(maybe) the PS3 would start to make money.

I think it's amazing that they have achieved such a big cut in cost per unit. If you add
the licensing money they earn from games they must be making a profit today.
Maybe even a 50-100$ price cut could be made in the fall 2008?
I think with a 100$ cut the PS3 would shoot away and sell really big numbers. Maybe
a 14-15 million year total sales and 22-24 million lifetime sales by 2008 end.

Mike banned? Why? Has he argued with a moderator here about moderation ONCE
AGAIN?

With cutting the production costs in half it appears to not be making money. Perhaps with games they are. Sony's gaming is estimated to lose $1.4M this year better then the $2.1M loss last year. And of course as Blu-Ray takes over Sony will see those licensing and manufacturing costs fall into a slightly different coiffer.

I'm not sure why MikeB was banned. He asked me to post some info. I read it and agreed with him so agreed that many with a PS3 here would be interested and posted it accordingly.

Yeeehaaaa!
According to Ign (via www.thewiire.com) Factor 5 is making a game for the Wii!
Quote:

Speaking to media Web site IGN, Factor 5 President Julian Eggebrecht
confirmed the development of at least one new Wii title from his
studio. Factor
5 is best known in the world of Nintendo for developing the Star Wars:
Rogue Squadron games for GameCube. The series earned acclaim for the
degree to which the games pushed the hardware, among other aspects. The
studio also created an audio solution for GameCube, and recently
developed Lair for PlayStation 3. Eggebrecht did not provide
specific details on the new Wii game; however, he informed IGN that it
would not simply rehash the technology used in the Rogue Squadron
titles. New technology has been built to accommodate the project
specifically for the Wii platform. The IGN report can be found here.
Will Factor 5 show Wii developers how to really take advantage of the system's power? Stay tuned to The Wiire to find out.

Factor 5 pumped out 20,000,000 polygons/sec with bump mapping and self-shadowing on the Gamecube. I'm quite curious how they are going to push the Wii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those 2 Star Wars games were diamonds compared to most other GC titles.

Maybe they get 2000 polygons/sec without bump mapping and shadows?
In low res (320x240) scaled to fit 720x576 (PAL) of course.

For the people that see Microsoft as lacking info on the 360 at the CES there are other conferences coming up. John Schappert, who oversees Xbox Live and Games for Windows, address as the keynote speaker at GDC. The organizers revealed that the session will set the strategy for Xbox 360 this upcoming year, revealing top developers' plans for the platform in 2008.

Rumors are of course flying from MGS4 to a Microsoft version of HOME.

It's no doubt that MicroSoft will do something to change the trend that PS3 is taking
sales from the 360 slowly week by week.
