Don't particularly want to oppress anyone, but it is a computing forum, and quite a few of the signatures recently have really got on various peoples wicks. |
A thorny problem. I'm sometimes of the opinion that it's ok to fight fire with fire from time to time so long as what you put forth is amusing and brief. To counter a certain God-sig that seems to be making so many people strangely anxious, might I suggest you look at the bottom of my sig (and get bonus points if you can quote the reference...)

Should user names & avatars also be subject to this limitation? Otherwise you'll end up with user names like JesusRoxx, JewHater, Atheist, etc. and I can only IMAGINE what kind of Avatars people could come up with! |

Simple really.
In 1940's Germany they fostered fear of the Jews. In 1950's USA they fostered fear of the Communists In 1960's UK/USA they fostered fear of drug using "hippies" ....... In 2000's they foster fear of Islam
|
Being most of the 60's hippies (not all) are Republicans and a large number Fundamentalist Christians I think the 60's fear the 'hippie' was right! They're now in charge! AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! |
That takes us back to my point about repressed guilt quite nicely I think. _________________ Ya Husayn! |

Atheism is not a religion.
Avatars and images, yes, thats true. Jeez this is depressing. It removes too much colour from the forum I think. |

Time, gentiles, please.

Gentiles? That's too long a word for a Goy like me to use, so I'll just stick to Goy if you don't mind...

I suppose I did -- but that doesn't change the fact that the "anti-Christian" rhetoric is very loud on this site. |
Because it is needed to counter the religious spamming that occurs. Perhaps if an individual (I know of no others) stopped posting "My religion is better than any of yours because...." or "Look how bad this religion is because.....", there would be no reason for such aggresive rebuttals all the time.
I'm all for the religious threads. They are great.. as long as they stay there.
You are objecting to the anti-religoius comments without neccesaly being aware of the pro-religious stuff (ie: Billsey) that is constantly being brought up on non religious threads. |
i hope i am misreading this but it sounds like you are justifying anti-religious comments because of one person._________________ Win•dows: n. You're not back tracking and saying that 'religous rhetoric' is unacceptable but that 'anti-religous' rhetoric IS acceptable, are you? |

Its not anti-religion, its without religion.
Definition:
1. Disbelief in or denial of the existence of God or gods. 2. The doctrine that there is no God or gods. 3. Godlessness; immorality.
Athiesm does not include intolerance as part of its definition. It is up to people what they individually believe lights up their internal wisdom.
However the promotion of Athiesm whilst denegrating other things WOULD be offensive.
Thus signatures like "Jesus is my buddy" isnt offensive "I don't believe in God" isn't offensive
But ones that indicate that everyone else is wrong if they disagree with you IS offensive.
So nicknames like:
JewsSuxx ChristiansAreBetterThanAnyoneElse DieAthiestDie
Would annoy the crap out of anyone its directed at.
So no backpeddling at all, just trying to work out a sensible compromise. |

To try and inject some seriousness into the conversation without picking on anyone (much), can someone please explain to me just why anyone would want to try and mess up something so wonderful as what we have now by trying to drag God(ess)(s/es) into the mix?
The universe is an amazing place, even more amazing for being an acausal event with no purpose in mind (as there is no mind directing the course of the universe to begin with), that doesn't need to have any lilly-guilding to make it more palatable. Are we really that insecure? Ignorant? Plain, unadulterated stupid? I am honestly at a loss for words as to why, at the beginning of the 21st century, we are still clinging to the lingering shreds of superstition and self-delusion.
I've offered this challenge many times before, and no-one has yet provided a good response (mainly through being blatantly ignored I think, life is so harsh sometimes), but that won't stop me from issuing it again: /clears throat. Ahem! The proof for the non-existance of God(ess)(s/es) can be found in many household items. Your challenge is to (a) find that proof and (b) explain it. Have fun and let me know what you come up with.
