@Hammer

In relation to the PS3 that sounds familiar:

PS3 may feature stereoscopic 3D in 2009

That would be good to have on a Wii2, possibly comboed with Virtual Surround header speakers and evolved Remote+Nunchuck.

The PS3 is still tracking way ahead of the PS1
Though the Wii is ahead of the last gen Gamecube and the 360 ahead of the last gen Xbox. The PS3 is behind the last gen PS2. Gaining in marketshare over last gen is Microsoft and Nintendo. Reducing marketshare over last gen is Sony.

PS3's increase seems to have been a stellar software line-up, considered to be the strongest in the industry this year.
By some people's preferences the PS3 was the strongest in the industry. By the market (lots of people) preference it was the Wii.

It looks to become a difficult year for PS3 naysayers
The so called 'naysayers' see the writing on the wall the economy is down being most expensive is a hinderance. PS3 needs a pricecut. The rumor on the streets is 35% come April. I think Sony is smart enough to realize this too. Personally, if I were Sony I'd cut in Sept not April. The big sales are always in Nov-Dec. April not so much. Sony lost this year due to Nov-Dec. I'm looking to see what their secret sauce is in 2009 so it doesn't happen again.

You missed some great games for the 360. Halo Wars is one exclusive. I'm hoping it does for RTS what Halo did for the console based FPS. There are 360/PS3 shared titles. But if you can spend $200 or $500 to play them why would the market not spend the $200? Writing is on the wall price cut PS3 is the fireworks for that console in 2009.

That remote and nunchuck get hard to hold with the reports of people throwing it and breaking TVs and other less expensive objects. Nintendo should make some sort of powered glove. This way it wouldn't be able to come off.

ROTFL!

Yep, power glove would permit a very good playing experience... about the breaking things problem I think it has been a little bit exaggerated by media/community: I've a lot of friends with a Wii and neither nobody of them nor me ever broke something with a remote flying from hands while playing.

Ars Technica at CES 2009:

"I couldn't pry details about how the 3D affect was achieved, or if the display could turn any source into 3D, but what's clear is that, glasses or no, the 3D affect is amazing. Sony showed off Wipeout HD running in true 3D, and I was ready to whip out my credit card right there. Frank and I both agreed, this was one of the best demos of 3D technology we have ever seen."

The Playstation Home, Red Bull Air Race is now available!

A quote: "Fun little game.

- very good controls, smooth gameplay
- left stick is steering, L1/L2 tilt the plane left or right, right stick is speed
- one "course", with about 25 or so "checkpoints" (with those balloon thingies like in the real Air Race)
- Extra 300 plane (3 teams/pilots to choose from (Hannes Arch, Peter Besenyei & Mike Mangold))"

I played it a bit, very nice, the game starts immediately from inside the space if you select to race, you can fly above the crowd and see people walking and talking. Tried to crash into them. The game will be expanded the upcoming months!

More free stuff like this and Home will IMO be huge!

We can call it almost cheating as it is sold in boundle to each Wii... but that simply means Wii is selling a lot.

Also I'm noting a lot of Horror titles popping up on Wii and that's imho is due to the high immersion level you can achieve by playing wiht remote + nunchuck compared to Keyboard+Mouse or Joypad.

If you recall, Super Mario Bros. was bundled in ALL regions. WiiSports was not bundled in Japan or Korea. If anything, WiiSports is a more legitimate king to the throne...

Even if neither title was bundled, it's almost safe to assume it would have a 1:2 ratio minimum and with an install base of 45 million for the Wii ... it's just a damn fun game and no Wii owner should be without it anyway...

The Wii is already selling faster than the PS2 did in it's first 2 years.
The Wii is the new PS2. I'm both proud and slightly ashamed at the same time. ;-P

My fault, did not remember that SMB was also boundled (Wii is my first Nintendo console so I do know very little about Nintendo history)

@ErikBauer

Welcome aboard. I'm just old like that so I know it well. I used to be a Nintendo hater up until the end of the 16bit generation until I learned my lesson. I even owned a PS1 but always felt like it wasn't a total package and was over my cousin's house every week playing multi-player games on his N64. I wasn't sold on the Dreamcast's game selection or it's controllers. I wasn't sold on the power of the PS2 after 2 years of hype and then finally seeing it in action and I picked up a GC and now Wii.

After years of waiting for things to load on a 64 and 128D, (Megadrive)SegaCD, CD32 ... and PS1, I was happy with the SNES, N64, GC and Wii "load" times compared to their competitors. Load times are my enemy.

@wegster

I couldn't find the original video I saw. Those YouTube ones are poo. Once you see the water effects and such, then you will see that it is far from a PS2 game.

Some comments from Edge-Online:
Quote:
Few non-believers will be swayed by‭ ‬the basics of Monster Hunter‭ ‬3.‭ ‬This is a straight series installment that concentrates on the core experience while playing around with some of the Wii hardware’s possibilities.‭ ‬Most notably,‭ ‬it’s quite beautiful.‭ ‬Capcom‭ ‬may have leaped to the forefront of Wii development if the long draw distances‭ ‬and lighting are anything to go by,‭ ‬despite the company’s insistence that the demo featured incomplete visuals.‭

The processing power isn’t just for the pretty plants,‭ ‬either,‭ ‬but goes towards creating a stronger sense of wildlife in motion as you move around the world,‭ ‬watching creatures chase and feed‭ ‬on one another.‭ ‬The game uses the Wii Remote to direct both camera and targeting.‭ ‬Simply pointing at a section of an enemy will focus attacks,‭ ‬although no‭ ‘‬locking‭’ ‬system was available in the demo code and it seems unlikely one will be included.‭

Luckily, IGN.com had the higher quality videos of those YouTube ones:

Sony has the biggest booth in the history of CES this year and they are planning to make several big announcements here.

First up is the EA Sport Complex for Playstation Home. It has some mini-games which could be interesting. One appears to be a casino game and the other a simplistic race game:

http://www.viddler.com/explore/sceablog/videos/223/0.734

Hopefully many other companies jump in and make Home a huge success.

Thanx for the Wellcome, I'm very glad to be part of Nintendo world: I did not know what I was missing by not playng Zelda games until I tried Twilight Princess!

Irony is that the game that brought me to the Wii is Red Steel, publically known as a flop, I find it to be one of the most enjoyable FPS ever.

LOL!
Sony forgot to add in the cost of a PS2 for that "backwards compatibility" feature...
Also, aren't the additional DS3 controllers the most epensive on the market compared to 360 and Wii?

Finally, I wonder how long HOME will stay free after it comes out of beta...atleast NXE is not in beta...

Rumors are circulating of a PS3 price drop in March/April. I wonder what they'll remove next from the hardware? LOL!

I have been championing Red Steel (see posts to Wegster on previous page) in these threads for a while... One of the FEW fps games I've ever cared to finish. At about 20%, the game's graphics made me realize what was not possible on the Gamecube. Great lighting.

Metroid Prime 3, get it now! That should be game of the decade. I still can't get past the last boss of the first planet. :(
I beat Metroid Prime on the GC and started it's sequel. I heard they are going to remaster them for the Wii just like Pikmin, Mario Tennis and DK:Jungle Beat(or was it Barrel Blast...?).

If you like the RTS genre, Pikmin is a must buy. Pikmin 3 has been announce as being in development. Note: the Pikmin franchise was started on the GC.

Yep! I do like FPS, my favourites being Red Steel, Quake II and Doom III. I'll give a try to Metroid Prime 3 for sure!
I'd Just LOVE to see Doom III on Wii and I'd pay for it even if I do finished it on my PC.

But IMHO the other strong genere for Wii is Survival Horror: as I stated before, playing them with remote+nunchuck give a plus on the immersion side and full immersion is a key point on survival horrors (My great hope is on Sadness, Fatal Frame and The Calling)

Back on Topic:

Nyko released a 'lawsuitproof' wiimote clone with some nice improvements:

I wish they had moved or added the 1 + 2 and '+' + '-' buttons around the A button to make them easier to reach for 'hardcore' games such as Metroid Prime 3 that uses every button for something.
