That's why memory protection and process isolation exists in the first place. You can't trust the developer of each and every Internet enabled program, plug-in, extension etc. on your computer to write 100% perfect code with no chance of exploits, and then also hope that every single non-Internet enabled process running on the OS is immune to attack vectors via those Internet-enabled processes. That's why modern operating systems and CPU's are designed to isolate processes from each other and from higher privilege levels.
Getting online without this protection is like leaving your front door unlocked. Sure, it's unlikely that a burglar will try your particular door, but if they do, you're completely defenseless.
The thing with the RPi is that the video doesn't doesn't go through the CPU so isn't hogging it's resources, kinda Amiga-like, in a way.
