ÂŁ149 / $189 https://retrogames.biz/news/thea1200-announce/
No word on the specs of the system, (highly likly Arm based and highly likely same kinda of specs as the A500 mini ) but the price does seem very good, considering you can’t get a A1200.net case and keyboard for that much and this come with that and the games and mouse/controller.
Interesting it comes with workbench, they don’t say AmigaOS, so again maybe legally they still can’t use Amiga in the branding but some how cleared up the use of workbench name.
Still a shame of lack of serious titles and maybe some love / show case of the demo scene.

I guess they made a deal with Amiga Corporation after all... There was never AmigaOS, only WorkbenchLast edited by pixie on 25-Oct-2025 at 05:04 PM.

Yes, they seem to have told Hyperion to go stick OS3.2.x and licensed Workbench 3.1 from Amiga Corp. Fair play!Last edited by BigD on 24-Oct-2025 at 09:22 AM.

Well I think they have not much now, the competitors in the "Amiga Retro Market" will have time to react ... |

it is a rebuild of A1200 so it makes more sense to install plain 3.1 than to license updated versions that came later like 3.2 |

Why would they want to license 3.2 from Hyperion?
Reasons for them not to license 3.2.
1) 3.1 is suffient for their needs.
2) Licensing 3.2 would probably cause legal problems.
3) 3.2 would likely cost more than 3.1.
4) If customers want 3.2 they can easily obtain it from another vendor. Last edited by Rob on 25-Oct-2025 at 09:09 PM.

The article makes a lot of assumptions! How do we know know the Side Hacks/Software Mods will work?
Also, the Mini didn't run Amiga software like a high end Amiga "with ease"! Some blitter/copper intensive games run like on a 030/25 whereas others like Jim Power and Fast Food 2 never quite got there compared to a stock A1200, though the tweaks made by AGS 2.7 allowed the Arm SOC to get close! Other RTS games like Napalm run like an 060/100 AGA again on AGS 2.7, so I'm not surprised The Setllers 2 can be optimised to work quite fast!
5 USB ports and a 3A USB-A slotted (assuming that's right) power brick included out of the box would have sweetened the deal!
Still interested though! Last edited by BigD on 15-Nov-2025 at 08:02 PM. Last edited by BigD on 15-Nov-2025 at 08:01 PM.

Why do they need the cash up front? They are treating this like a Kickstarter! There's a UK budget coming up....and Christmas! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Possible reasons (IMHO):
Christmas business (but no new product) Fear of competitors (A1200NG with case+keyboard)

Not good enough IMHO! Why should we have to pay up front to shield them from the competition from AmigaKit? _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Well they really should get the prototype finished and confirm the line up before they eat IMHO! Seriously, this feels more like a Kickstarter for a large case and keyboard for THEA500 Mini mobo! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art."
