| I guess I ought to introduce myself. My name is David Pitcher, I use three aliases on the net first is DaveP - that is when I am being serious. The second is DaveW, that is when I am deliberately winding trolls up. If this has misled someone in the past I apologise.
The final is Digby, that is when I want to remain anonymous to see if I will get the same flaming replies when I post the same opinion under a different name. All three handles have been misused by others on ANN ( and Amiga.org when I forgot to clear the cache of a browser session ) and Moobunny with the result that I have had to abandon some in favour of the next.
As Ole has outed me I am a software engineer for IBM but I do not speak for them. I am also developing ( well have developed, I am done as soon as I get hardware that works with AmigaOS4.0 back up again and finish signing that NDA ) some kick #### software for AmigaOS4.x which will see it being used in new areas that Amigas have never been used before.
I have worked on a gadzillion ( or so it feels ) projects and have a reasonable breadth of experience. I happen to have flamed Amiga Inc for what I saw as some of its PR faux pas in the past and also have given Mike here a hard time before but I hope we can put that behind us.
Until recently I have had an email account locked because of the due process of law ( exclusion order only I am afraid ) after I was threatened by a deranged idiot who decided to stalk me after seeing a post on Amiga.org. I have about two months worth of emails on there that I am now allowed to read for the first time.
Most of you will know already from Amiga.org that I am undergoing treatment for a terminal condition and every so often the treatment puts me in a very bad mood so apologies for when this happens in advance, Ill try and stay clear of the computer
I own and run AmigaBooks.org which currently has two books in review at Addison Wesley on the run up to publication which will be a major announcement if we get that far.
I do not agree that Amiga.org is going to the dogs but I like this fresh look and fresh experience - hopefully without the bickering approach we can have constructive disagreements instead.
So now you all know as much about me as I care to reveal - I won't feel like I am hiding something |

| Wow, we really are starting to see a flow of extra interest here!!! It's good to see :)
I originally found AmigaWorld back when Amiga.org had been hacked and was down for months. I liked the site, but didn't become fully active here until I eventually put my Amiga online a few months ago.
I would hope that Amiga.org still has a lot to offer the Amiga Community, and I know that Wayne works extremely hard on it, but I do agree with a no flame wars policy. This is an Amiga site for Amiga related chat, and while I do think it's important to chat and discuss differences in opinions amoungst the Amiga community, I don't agree with Flaming the Amiga here. I am of the opinion that if someone doesn't like the Amiga anymore and isn't happy with the way things are going - fine, bugger off somewhere else instead, don't bother us real Amiga Users with trashy, negative, pointless moans and groans.
This site is a little more refreshing, but that's not to do with the site, but more the members it has at the moment - currently this site has a very pro-Amiga backround of members. I would hope that it stays that way.
Welcome to the site all you newbies ;)

My Fault, I posted a Farewell post on Amiga.org and the ripple seems to have turned into a Wave.
I do hope this site is moderated against MorphOS supporters, If it means that I live in ignorance but suffer less Stress, then who gives a Damn?
Regards

I rode "shotgun"
Mikey_C was leaving and I followed him out the door. I think some of the others caught the next bus, but some may have hitched a ride on the tailgate! Anyways, we're here!
Seriously, I think it has alot to do with the way AO has changed so much in the last few months. And since it has moved away from Amiga's hosted server and now being sponsored by Genesi, among others, it just feels to me like it's not my "Amiga Home" anymore.
I don't blame Wayne for taking money from anyone who can help sponsor his website, and he has done alot to support the community over the years. I appreciate that. But the recent changes in the community have created stong divides. I think that the 2 sides will never agree, so we should just separate to avoid so much turmoil. |

I must say I agree with all your sentiments above. Wayne has done a tremendous amount for the Amiga community over the years. However, as you have so rightly said, the changes have caused strong divides and it is best if the two factions seperate now. I understand why Wayne has gone down the commercial route. However when you go that way, you have to make sure you understand your market. Amiga.org has gone in a direction I don't feel comfortable with. - Wish Wayne the best of luck though.
However, I feel very comfy here in my new pair of slippers.

| Personally I think it is the fact that Amiga.org is failing to moderate the deliberate trolls. I couldn't care too hoots if MicroSoft sponsored the site for example - but I do care that deliberate lamers were able to stir up trouble and turn Amiga.org into a -as Mikey said- stress zone.
@Mikey_C They are WindowsXP a like slippers though |

| I followed Mikey_C here. :)
I wish Wayne the very best with Amiga.org as he has done so much for us for so many years. I just feel, as I'm sure many here do, that the atmosphere has changed a lot over there. I just want to be some where that I can read about the Amiga and enjoy hearing from other's that like to use the Amiga too. So far this place feels pretty inviting and Amiga friendly.

P.S. The colors are pretty too!

| I'd gladly bring some beer, but as I'm in the US it's pretty hard to find any that's good.
Bud light anyone?
