That's what I'm saying... Anyway, I emailed OS4depot to remove the 6.2 file.Last edited by DaveAE on 17-Apr-2006 at 07:39 AM.

I think it's very uncommon to have noise on the SB Live without playing anything. It almost sounds like the card isn't fitted fully. Can you try a different PCI slot, preferably the bottom one? _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com |

I will try a different slot, but the sound is perfect with AMP and Amplifier. I also notice that the system really drags when using DVPlayer or MPlayer. If I have the movie playing it takes 3-4 sec for GUI's to load where it is instantly loaded without those programs running. Also MPlayer is very out of sync now voice lags by two seconds. I have tried forceidx but no help. DVPlayer sync perfectly, but still crackles. I am also going to try the DVD in a regular player and see if it is the DVD. Question my DVD player is Unit 2 Should (S)VCD be Unit 0? I have always used Unit 2, but Unit 0 works too. Other problem with this version is of the GUI for MPlayer is that the sound stops completely after 10 seconds. John Paul |

You shouldn't change PCI slots when you only have sound problems when using DVPlayer or MPlayer. The comment was meant for 'painter'. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com |

Checkmark the box "framedrop" to help with synchronization. The A/V files will drop some frames during playback, but should do a much better job of keeping audio and video in sync. If using the experimental2 MPlayer with the GUI version 1.40, you will get better performance through "window" playback, unless you change the following: (1)While MPlayer is playing an A/V file in active window, hold down right mouse button. (2)A menu should be visible (3)Under "Video Options" you will notice that "scale video" is checked active. (4)Turn this option OFF (uncheck). (5)At this point, when you press the "f" key, you will get a fullscreen representation of the A/V file WITHOUT scaling. This is preferred, because the scaling option is still quite slow at this point.
Note:The option "scale video" seems to revert to "active" or "checked" each time you start to play a new A/V file, so you will have to turn it off with each new A/V file you play, if you intend to use "fullscreen" playback.
If you don't want to go through the above with experimental2 and GUI version 1.40, then try DP#5 with "framedrop" checked. The main advantage of experimental2, at this point is the fact that many WMV9 will play in this version, albeit slowly.

Have you got DMA set to ON for both harddrive and DVD-ROM?
Use Idetool to check this.

I tried frame drop and that did the trick.
I have not had success with Samwel's advice the help file for Idetool is confusing for me. I am assuming that the DMA is OK and all set up. I got the machine from Justin Hemming of Livewire in Ottawa and took it back Christmas 2004 for the fix. I assume it was all taken care of then. It was Justin's personal machine. You can tell he really baby'd it. Seven fans!
But I am still getting the crackle only with the movie players.

If you are using the onboard IDE, please post here the output of "idetool -l a1ide.device"
If you are using an sii0680 PCI board, please post here the output of "idetool -l sii0680ide.device"

No wonder, you are running your drives in PIO.
Please go to UBoot prompt, and enter :
setenv a1ide_xfer FFFF saveenv
That should do. Please repost the output of "idetool -l a1ide.device" when done.

Thank you very much. The sound is great in both DVPlayer and MPlayer. I imagine this will affect performance in other ways too. I will thank you by pressing the PayPal button.

Sorry, I forgot to "come back" to this thread after my question. But it seems you got help from the author himself, no better source than that really..
It was just as I thought, no DMA. The behaviour of your audio apps was similar to before we got DMA enabled. That was why I suggested checking it. Glad you got it fixed!

The rear connectors are for a 5:1 sound system. I'm using a powered speaker set with a single stereo jack. When I first got the micro, I tried the rear connections, but the audio sounded "dirty", no crackling, but not clean. The audio seems cleaner using the front connector. The rear connectors are hardwired & the front connectors are wired to the sound header port so they are different outputs. If you have L & R front speakers, L & R rear speakers, & a subwoofer, then you use the rear outputs. If you only have L & R front speakers & a subwoofer, then the front output is best.
|
Sorry for the late answer
But this is not quite correct.. The back connector for the front speakers should be exactly the same as from the front, i.e. it goes to the same place in the hardware.
Also 5.1 is not enabled yet so the back connectors don't support anything else than 2 channels (front speakers).
Maybe DaveAE could elaborate a bit on this matter? We are talking about the µA1-C Dave.

Fron Xenic: Quote:
Sound output from my rear sound connector and the front sound connector on my µA1 is very different. The rear connector sound has one channel at a much lower volume than the other and the sound doesn't seem as clear. The front connector sound is much louder and clearer. I asked about this shortly after I got my µA1 but never got a satisfactory answer. I wish some audio expert would do some measurements on the 2 connectors and tell me why they are so different. Maybe the front ones are not line-level but rather for headphones or something. If A1's were not so hard to get I'd send mine back to have it checked out. |
Sound familiar to Sundown?

Hehe true.. But then again we thrive on problems with hardware, audio, graphics, network aswell as setup problems.
