Hehe, yeah. It has vapour written all over it. They didn't contact Hyperion and highly likely didn't contact Amiga Inc., so they don't even know the added cost of both licenses. That means no or no sane business plan. Considering that you can buy DVD/media players for around 50 euro and the AInc license being very high, this is chanceless. Apart from that, he says "We are currently half-way through booting OS4 ", which is completely crap, since they don't have U-boot booting and OS4 wouldn't boot at all anyway. So, yes, vapour!!

Easy, don't talk about unlaid eggs, maybe they are cubic and noone wants to buy them, maybe they are rotten and only a few would buy them, maybe they are gold and noone has the money to buy them, maybe they are egg-shaped with a white or brown color, then noone wants to buy it because they are boring... |

Yes, I know, it's hard to decide where to spend your money on when suddenly 6 new platforms for OS4 appear on the market (in two weeks).

IIRC there was an announcement that AmigaOS is already ported to PowerPC 405 CPU.
Is this statement true?
> Cheap US$ 20.00
The CPU is IBM PowerPC 405, not AMCC. AFAIK the price of the CPU / SOC is more than US$ 20.
Apparently the walnut boards are failed multimedia STB products in 2002. The vendor went bankrupt and the remaining products were sold at low price (fire sale).
If Hyperion ported AmigaOS 4 to this board, who will mass manufacture it? Is it possible to sell the boards for less than US$ 100?

How true can it be when Rogue just posted the following?
Rogue wrote: Quote:
FWIW, a PowerPC 750/7400 kernel will never run on a 405 because they have totally different MMU's. In addition, the 405 has no FPU so you would need to do a complete soft-float build (which is not publically available). |
@d0c
Yep, isn't it weird how people still get so excited about this after the 101th episode. I'm off for drawing some case designs. _________________ This signature is in the middle of a much needed facelift! |

It's one thing to sell a used board for $19.99, another thing to sell NEW equipment at that price.

Ported to, yes.
Released for, no.
Run that through strcmp (or strncmp if you're afraid of stack overflow ) and see if ported == released for. So where excactly did they steal the kernel they're claiming to boot? _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). That still does not make the 405 suddenly have a 750/7400 type FPU and MMU..._________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail |

As I remember, the processor on the board is a PPC 405-alike: An IBM STB (set top box) controller. It has on-chip MPEG decoding (audio and video) and a simple audio codec, plus support for two popular DVB encryption standards (market usage requires license agreement). The framebuffer is intended for simple overlay graphics and lacks any particular acceleration.
The last time I saw this used was in Hauppauge's MediaMVP product. |

The 405 might have an audio controller, but no codec. The board that is shown in the picture doesn't have audio connectors and probably doesn't have a codec. Anyway, doesn't matter, it's vapour (or is it vapor, heh) anyway. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com |

edit: oops, I thought you were saying AmigaOS4.0 would not run on 4xx PPC and so I was talking about "AmigaOS4 running on an existing PDA" as you stated (->750-based PDA???)...whereas you were just saying that there is no PUBLIC version of UBoot & OS4 for 4xx and rickardr did not contact you about his "project" -> the board won't be able to boot OK.
