Nice people from A Cube send me an e mail :

Hi Miladin,

On 27-Gen-07, you wrote:

First of all thank you very much for your interest in Sam440EP.
Right now we are very busy at finishing the development of the board and so
it could happen that some emails are answered with some delay.

The final price and the availability of the board will be announced on our
web site or through an announce list we are about to set up in the next few
days.
You will then be able to subscribe to this mailing list to get all the news
right on your mailbox.

Thanks again for your interest.

Sincerely,
ACube Systems Srl.

If I could get into an OS4 rig by summer I would be very happy at this point.

@Comi

A mailing list is a good idea!

Especially if all announcements will be reposted here, and I guess they will!

@d0c

Perhaps AInc won't "offically" license the hardware until it is proven that there is a batch ready to go for OS4 users.

Or maybe I'm just speculating wildly.

Well Bill Mcewen did say a few years ago that he would not make an anouncement until the product was sat on his desk in front of him. Maybe he is actually sticking to his word on this one.

Would Bill McEwen actually know what to do with it if an Amiga product was stuck on his desk !

The world's fastest MicroA1

OS4 Screenshot

Sorry guys, do not have time to translate the whole thread, but you get the idea. The board does run without overclocking. ACube asks to make clear that this is not a new product (I gather that what they mean is the board is not yet production-ready).

So, seems like someone's made a working CPU replacement card for A1s, then?

Ahh well, a screenshot is more than we ever saw from ACK. I hope ACube does an official update/statement on this, preferably in English!

Wasn't it Bill McEwen who told the world about Samantha in his 20 answers? Did he have one on his desk in front of him then?

Not completely, over here it's stated that it's an existing G4 module with a new CPU soldered to the board. Still, a 1.26GHZ with 512kb of cache is worth something. If they could get the design files for the module itself, then they could manufacture new ones.

I would be a lot happier about that announcement if Eyetech was still selling uA1s. As it is, this is good news only for existing owners and not a way to grow the user base (which is what we desperately need).

@billt

He never specifically mentioned any name (apart from Troika) in the 20 questions. Okay he spoke about Sam in the MP3 that was released, but that did coincide with the board being shown at Pianeta.

What I meant though is that he has not actually spoken about them having any licence or dates for when the products will be released.
We have not had a repeat of all the BS in 2001, when OS4 was on schedule and rocking and it would be shown at the november WOASE show. Only for it to be announced the day before that there was no working hardware let alone a single line of code to run on it.

I do kind of see your point, but you can't exactly acuse Amiga Inc of giving people false hopes in the last few years. Quite the contrary in fact.

@Comi

ACube Systems have by far been the most professional "new hardware solution" potential suppliers to date, only announcing something when something to show or give information..... keep it up and let's hope that 1st quarter 2007 produces the results they have worked hard for.

Wasn't that part of the documentation that someone leaked by putting it on the MAI public FTP when MAI went under a few years ago? Or maybe that was just the motherboard files? Can't remember, got to check to be sure...

@sicky

I think Genesi wins here, with the efika being available atm. OTOH, so far it's just those two with anything "concrete" (or suitable for that matter ). Silly really
