So OS4 is now up and running but cannot seem to select my voodoo graphics card at present despite that being present in devs/monitors. I'm sure there is a simple solution to this !!

Does ShowConfig show PCI devices? (On os4depot.net should be better PCI scan tools
but its a start)

When it shows something, have a look at Documentation/Picasso96/ScreenModes.doc,
maybe it helps.

Show config reports no pci cards - I've had no issues with my Mediator under OS3.9 so do not understand what the problem is when this is included in the list of supported hard ware.

Which version of the Mediator1200 is this exactly?
Which Zorro Product and Vendor ID is reported by ShowConfig for the Mediator?
Maybe there exists a Product ID which is not known to the kernel.

I used a HDD that was already partitioned with several working DOS/3 partitions and OS3.9 installed. I decided to install OS4.0 on a spare partition and selected long file names which seems to produce a DOS/7 partition. You also need to edit the DOS Type from 444f5303 by changing the last number from 3 to 7 to give 444f5307.

You were right and I were right as well. I did choose a DOS/7 for the boot partition, but i hadn' t set the dostype of the imported FastFileSystem from 444f5303 -> 444f5307. As the default filesystem was DOS/3, I switched to the "user defined value" settings and specified 444f5307. Of course, there was no filesystem of that dostype in the RDB and thus, i completley messed up the partition table.

I couldn't reboot the system with this HD at the SCSI device chain and I coudn't even get into the Early Sartup System without crashing the entire system. Hence, I had to remove my HD from the device chain, attach another one and had to restall AmigaOS4 on the new HD.

After the succesfull installation and starting of AmigaOS4, I attached the broken HD on-the-fly to the scsi chain (i know, you shouldnt do that, but i had no choice). OS4 recognized the HD and i could do a low level format (simply reinstalling the RDB didn`t help).

The whole thing took around 5 hours or so :(

But then everything went fine and installation of AmigaOS4 was easy :)

Conclusion:
1) never, never choose a filesystem dostype for your boot partition which is *not* in the list
of predefined filesystems! It will destroy your RDB and you`re not able to boot anything as long this HD is on the SCSI device chain!

2) AmigaOS4 installation is easy and without pain if you read the manual carefully :D

The remaining problem with AOS4 installation.
My Xsurf network card doesnt work with AOS4, although at

http://www.acube-systems.com/compatibility/

it is listed as a supported device by AOS4.

(but only with Zorro II. I have attached the X-Surf into the Mediator 4000 PCI board, which is also a Zorro III board, right? Could this be the problem? X-Surf doesnt work on Zorro III and AOS4?)

I did the following to configure the network card:

sys:->Internet->new connection

The connection wizard appeared and then I tried both:
->Ethernet (DSL,lokal network)
->Router (over ethernet ohne ppp)
and
-> autmatic configuration
-> manual configuration (XSurf ethernet (x-surf.device)
and Xsurf PPPoE (xsurfadsl.device)

but it never worked and I always got the error message:
-> device dreiver and port coldnt be configured
(x-surf.deivce, port 0 couldnt be openend.)

showconfig told me the following:
Board (individual Computers): Prod=626/23($1212/$17) (@$E90000 64k)

thus, the x-surf board is known in the zorro adress space.

What could be the problem? Any Ideas?

thanks,
nexus

P.S. Now, i nearly wrote in this thread as much as in all threads in the last 4 years together! Only AmigaOS(4) makes it possible!

Just some guesses. You can check if you have the latest x-surf.device,
you can try if blacklisting x-surf.device in Prefs/Compatibility helps,
and you can try to configure your network with Prefs/Internet instead
of Internet/New Connection when its a plain ethernet connection to a router
and no PPPoE is involved.

@ALL

Nexus and IanO are hereby declared winners as they are the very first to recieve and install OS4 for classics. One small step for the dealers....one giant leap for the users!

But winning such an exclusive title calls for proper documentation in the form of text/video/screenshots/mp3's etc.......we want emotions!!!!!!!

So come on Nexus and IanO.......we are waiting for your reports, or perhaps you're gonna let somebody else take that prize right before you???

Who can make the funniest video of the installation/user/person??

HYPERION ROCKS!!!!!!!

@TetiSoft

Which version of the Mediator1200 is this exactly?

This is the Mediator LT

Things have moved on and in desparation I dug out my Bvison which i thought had died but to my delight worked !! So a reinstall of OS4 later and no more AGA !!

OS4 is certainly fast and even though I've got an Amiga One it certainly runs as well on an A1200

This mediator problem however is bugging me as show config in OS4 reports no PCI boards. However if I revert back to OS 3.9 all is fine.

I would like the mediator working under OS4 just in case my Bvison dies and a solution is found for the sound and NIC card issues.

I've also installed a Subway USB device and that seems to work OK under OS 4.

@Hondo

Nice to be decalred a winner but it more like am I winning to get OS4 fully functional on my A1200.

See my post on the Voodoo / Mediator issue but I can report the system really flies with a Bvison card and even compared to my Amiga One is pretty impressive.

However the Mediator / PCI cards are currently not recognised so thatb will be as far as I go although in the next few days i intend to test various software. Of course one big advantage of the classic is floppy support however I do not know if the installer programme will be compatible.

Amazing isn't it that I purchased my Blizzard / Bvison over 10 years ago and this is the first time they will have been used to their capacity. So well done Hyperion and please sort this Mediator problem out !!

Disaster.
AOS.4 has turned up.
Inserted boot floppy and CD was activated.
Screen flashed some colours and then nothing else happend.
In desperation resorted to the manual.
Seems I have to disable the maprom feature.
I cant't do this because the boot menu screen on the PPC isn't visible.
I can sort of see something but the picture jumps like mad.

It wont search for PCI boards on the Mediator before it found a Mediator,
thats why I asked

The "Zorro" was not a typo

Oh, just googled for the Zorro Product ID and it seems the 1200LT is not supported.
Supported are Mediator4000, Mediator1200 and eventually Mediator Z-IV.

@spotUP

Somebody else has suggested it may be A or C on the BPPC.
Will try all three.

Cheers.

Have had it confirmed.
On the BPPC early startup (Different than miggy early startup) it is C I need to press.
Will test it in about 45 mins when I get home.

Not good news then for Mediator Lt owners so a good job my Bvison came to the rescue. I though the the only difference was that the LT version had 2 less PCI slots and an AT power interface but seem not the case as far as OS 4.0 is concerned.

Just out of interest, have you tried installing the mediator's own 68k drivers?
