They are of use if you can adapt them to run on other devices.

Who can do that though?
And the only hardware would be Mac Mini... Which is still basically impossible. The version that was released is buggy and incomplete... Its also highly unstable... Before I get myself into trouble I understand what your saying, but its impossible really to adapt these versions for other hardware without the source.

I don't have sound on my computer at work, but the video is far from convincing. It's some text going down the screen, I assume status/debug messages, that is too small/blurry to see what it says. It could be mexican food recipes or Dick Cheney's ultra-top-secret plans leading up to 911 for all I can see. Then it changes to a blank blue backgrouns screen, but no icons or status that I could tell, just a blue screen for a second or two before the video ends. While I'd absolutely love OS4 on my iBook, this video could be any standard iBook/OSX boot with additional status messaging at the beginning, and they stopped the camera before OSX showed itself. What can we see in this video that we can tell is OS4???????? I'm guessing hoax. Last edited by billt on 15-May-2008 at 07:24 PM. Last edited by billt on 15-May-2008 at 07:23 PM.

wahahahaha
He's not a coder. And it doesn't work
No one is making progress with that. It's just a crazy amigan desperate who thinks the mac mini loader will work in his laptop despiting the fact it only runs on very few Mac Minis. _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ |

I'd rather have 2,000 people buy a copy and 200,000 pirate users/developers/programmers, than just 2,000 users, full stop.
After all get the userbase up, you can get the protection up for the next version, it's not as if all the copies of Windows 3.1 did Microsoft any harm, quite the opposite..
Just get OS4 out on anything.... _________________ Rage quited 29th May 2011 |

The scale of things is a bit different for MS. They still had a zillion legal licenses and money from those to run the company and pay the coders. If Hyperion/Amiga sell a couple hundred copies of OS4 and everybody else pirates them, that's not enough to run either company or pay the coders._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

Very true. However, I'd rather have the iBook supported officially instead of having to hack together a patch like this. Having OS4 on a laptop would be great.

That's true as well, although you'd hope that some of those extra users would start developing drivers, etc.
Talking about sales, I seem to remember them saying that Amigaone users would be able to buy a boxed copy of OS4 with manual at some point in time. Is that still going to happen? I wouldn't mind having a printed manual.

With the legal issues between AInc and Hyperion, I think it's not going to happen unfortunately. So a hack or an official version for AmigaOne that could magically boot would be just fine !
What about an installation CD for AmigaOne and downloadable drivers ?

I can't believe this! This is so typical of a Youtube video. The quality is terrible and the camera work shoddy, haven't these people heard of a tripod? Apart from that all I see is something resembling a Mac and some unreadable text. This is total crap! If they are going to film something and make a claim as big as this then damn well do it professionally and hook up a computer/recorder up to the VGA out port and record it right. This isn't going to get stand at the World of Amiga. It would be laughed off. |
