| Just a quick recap for new users:
I started an MSN client for OS4 a few months ago. It currently has: - emoticons - "user is typing" notifications - nudges (they shake the window just like on Windows) - logging/log reloading - utf8 character conversion using codesets.library - sound alerts - rudimentary file transfers (only works with some clients though.. doesnt work with Pidgin. Actually it seems pretty hit and miss in general!) - editable usernames
Also, you can add/remove and rename users.
Screenshots: http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/sabremsn/sabremsn.png http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/sabremsn/chat_window.png http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/sabremsn/chat_window2.png
Known problems (again, this is just off the top of my head): - Sometimes the SSL stuff fails when trying to connect, so the only thing you can do is keep clicking connect after it fails each time - the list of Online contacts isnt always sent in full when I first connect. I havent found an answer to that problem yet. So it appears like everyones offline, or most of your online contacts are offline. Reconnecting to the server once or twice in a row seems to restore the list properly sometimes. - adding users to your contacts list doesnt update their presence, so they appear offline until they change their online status - Random disconnection. just dies by itself after a few hours sometimes, and I dont know why! - Sometimes Sabre reapers. I've only had this happen twice in the last few weeks though. It seems to be dying on the MUI input loop, but maybe I've done something illegal before that call..
Grab it from here: http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/sabremsn/
The updated file transfer protocol isnt supported, so you can only receive files from some older MSN clients.
I'm also planning to open source the project soon.
2008-09-21: Alpha 31 - Sabre now uses SabreMSN.info or SabreOS3.info for its iconified state - The iconified text changes to "New Messages Waiting" when new messages arrive while iconified - Reverted the 2nd change from the last update as it seemed to have problems. - Tinkered with the file sending code. Added a delay of 1 tick after each packet is sent to avoid a broken pipe. I think it was reporting at the users end that they had run out of disk space (??). For some reason this delay has improved things.. I dont know why. - Removed sockets from file descriptor sets when connections fail, to avoid 100% cpu usage.
If you had semi-working outgoing file transfers, i.e. they'd start but then die part way through sending, please let me know if this version is any improvement or not! Thanks guys :) |

Great! You actually listen to requests, unlike the Jabberwocky and Epistula guys, thanks!
This will be my future MSN client. Epistula won't start and Jabberwocky really doesn't support much at all. Noone is use Jabber or ICQ any longer anyway... ;) _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

sending a file to my friend virus-man.
file transfers: progdir:note_about_this_release.txt size:901250072 bytes (really 13752 bytes)
on the chat:
File Transfer has started.. File Transfer Complete.
But this time another error message translated on:
You haven't receive the file "note_about_this_release.txt" send by (my msn adress).
virus-man send a file to me:
Nothing at all on the screen.
Additionnal little note 1:
my friend see jahc connected (hotmail) at 15:26PM (french hour) with his messenger on PC and not me with SabreMSN AOS3.x ???.
Additionnal little note 2:
tried to add a hotmail.fr adress by cut'n'paste from chat window. -not work with cut'n'paste and a CR at the end of the adress. -not work when typing the adress and use enter or the add gadget. -work when editing the renamed_contacts.txt Last edited by Mrodfr on 21-Sep-2008 at 01:42 PM. Thanks for the new alpha and still working on it. Your first screenshot is not working. Deleting a contact does not work for me (didn't ever yet). After answering "yes" to remove the contact the window gets refreshed once and nothing more happens (OS3 version). |

Correction, I don't listen to requests from idiots like yourself. Get off your #### and do things for yourself if you're not happy.

Hehe, sorry.... I know I expressed myself a bit like a moron once. It was about being able to copy text from the chat window IIRC. At that time, jabberwocky had failed which annoyed me so I was just trying Epistula out, had some problem finding info for how to start the MSN plugin IIRC which annoyed me little more, then chatting with a friend who sent me a long link to a web page which I could neither click on nor copy. That was the drop.
Now I actually wanted to try out Epistula again since Jabberwocky has stopped working again, and if you look closely you see that I started a thread about it where I wanted answer for the problem with NBitmap which is not Epistula's fault but rather some other class which I can't remember, hence the thread.
I was recommended Sabre and tried that and it works fine and even got a new feature implemented in one day which I call service.
About doing things myself instead: Have you missed that I'm the head developer for OnyxSoft with over 35 products behind me?? Cool, I use MPlayer-GUI and BackUp frequently! BackUp mirrors my hard drive to a 2nd backup hard drive nicely. Someone made a synchronisation software for os4 recently, but your program does the job already. I made a script that copys each partition to the matching backup partition, then does a clean removing files that dont exist on the source drive. It's really handy, thank you! |

Thanks! I have BackUp run by DRemind regularly to mirror my partitions. I don't clean automatically though incase I have deleted a file by mistake, and then the backup suddenly kicks in.
Btw. I'm using SabreMSN now, seems to works fine! I can't quite get that PNG icon to display correctly on WB though. Tried replacing the icon image with the png icon file but only the 1st image displays, the second (clicked) just image displays as the default image icon..
Any chance you can make this into an Amiga PNG Glow icon instead of a plain png image or whatever it is?
And to my actual point: Does Sabre have Arexx support? If not, I'd like to see a basic version with just Connect, Disconnect and SetStatus if that would be possible. You see, I have a night script where I just press the sleep-button on my keyboard which sets Jabberwocky(for now) to Extended Away, renames my nick on IRC to *Zzz, stops the MP3 player and switches of the screen, and optionally switches off one of my HDs.

Install this for PNG icon support: http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=library/misc/png_im.lha
I dont know if I'll use a real Amiga icon in future. It's too fiddly converting and determining formats later..

I'll leave that request in the "maybe" pile, for when I'm motivated to do anything. :)

As from the readme for the tool Zero pointed out: "PNGIcon2Amiga will convert those "PNG Icons" to standard Amiga icon format without the need to install any icon module."
The part in bold is my goal
I'll convert them myself, no need for you to mess with it. The Arexx would be nice though _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

Just to say that this day is the second time sabreMSN 68k not connect at startup (with connect automatically checked on the settings). I, of course, know that you know well the problem because e xplained on the readme but just want to be precise and explain that the problmem arrive here not verry often.
On the first SabreMSN, the background is white (and normally set with MUI settings) and when launching a second sabreMSN, the background is black ???
Just little details and just would like to inform you, jahc

Okay.

With MUI, it has a seperate config file for each opened instance of any MUI app.
In the past, I've had up to 4 instances of Sabre opened at once, so I've got these files: dir envarc:MUI/#?sabre#? SABREMSN.1.prefs SABREMSN.2.prefs SABREMSN.3.prefs SABREMSN.4.prefs
For the second (and third and fourth, etc) instance of SabreMSN, you need to configure it to use a white background.
