Should mention in case it is relevant that "man at desk" (wegster's avatar) has a loop counter which is ignored in IBrowse, but stops the animgif in OWB when the loop number is reached.

EEEP. That explains why my available memory drops so fast over on fairlanefastback's thread about installing OS4.1 on his Peg. wegster's avatar is all over that thread.

@Thread

ah ha,

I already had the memory leakage problem on OWB 3.7, only, I didnt bother reporting it, as I simply went back to using 3.5.

But 3.9 seems fine for me so far?

Strange.

@Gebrochen

Just a few moments ago, my system froze solid while I was typing a post on this website with OWB 3.9.

I think I'll be using IBrowse on amigaworld from now on.

@all

We're now at 45 posts in this thread, and this bug is still not listed here, unless I missed it somehow. It's also clear that people noticed this bug earlier, but didn't report it.

Bugs won't get fixed unless the developer knows about them. So, if you find a bug in OWB, please do the following:
- Check the list of bugs on os4depot in order to see if it's already been reported
- If it's not, log in to bugs.os4depot.net (create an account if you don't have one) and submit the bug report yourself.

Hans

At last, something we can blame on wegster, ssolie will be so pleased!

He is using a comon avatar, I've see others use it on the windows forums.

I have noticed that if 1 animgif is playing, my memory usage shoots up & then stabilizes, with 2 animgifs, my memory usage goes up until I run out & get a system freeze. The 2 animgifs in post #38 are lethal for me. Funny thing is, I pulled up a smilie web site with many animgifs playing & memory usage was stable. Another thing, those with only 256MB of memory will be hit the hardest vs those with 512MB of mem.

It's reported:
http://bugs.os4depot.net/?function=viewissue&issueid=116

And was also reported several weeks earlier after OWB V3.7 release with a note that even at THAT time it was a longer standing bug.

I noticed, and thank you.
What's curious now is the almost universal idea to revert to V3.7, when the prior report says the problem existed as a longer standing bug even THEN.

It talks about an animgif related crash, which isn't the same as a memory leak. Granted it's probably related, but when I posted, I found no bug report that specifically related to it chewing up memory.

True, but same as you, I think we'll find out the relationship between the earlier report and the current one are related as to cause.

Just tried it out... Got a nice grim reaper after less than 2 minutes of browsing. I hope it was just bad luck or i will have to go back to 3.7 again. It also seems to be using a whole lot of extra cpu on some rare occasion. Right now it is lagging like hell as i write this and cpu usage jumps between 40%-90% even though i only have this one tab running and nothing else besides wookiechat.

edit: This is on a Sam 533mhz running os 4.1

No problems here so far.

Using CPUinfo docky to check usage.
There is a little bit of lag on typing and the usage does jump right up.

Using a 667mhz Sam

Can someone try this link in owb 3.10? http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/01271.html
This leads to a instant grimreaper for me with 3.10 while it worked fine in 3.7 and 3.9.
And i notice now that the cpu usage only spikes when writing. Why would it do that? It is so laggy that it takes a second or so to respond to the keyboard.

Unfortunately that old memory leak problem still exists in 3.10. (CPU usage is 100% when amount of free memory is dropping.)

@unimon

Would you be so kind as to retitle the thread to include V3.10, since the discussion has proceeded to a newer version.
Thanks.
