I think it's a separate card if it's the Xena product I linked to. There's not enough chips on the motherboard for it to be integrated.

Well, the plug-in card must have a chip that does all the work, the other bits and pieces will be to process signals coming in etc.

If the new machine does use this Xena technology then it must be using it to process audio/video rather than to display it. The display and capture can be done using off the shelf PCIe cards.

3xPCIe x4 or x8

the 2 long black slots are the length of x16 pci-e, so latest graphics cards will fit, and the 3rd next to the pci is a bit shorter, so thats a x8?

My hope of a motherboard with a competitive price/performance ratio was just killed.. But I still hope I'll be surprised when the details are revealed.

So, most likely dualcore and a chip that uses ~20watts at most.

8 x 25% is 200%, so the CPU may be dual core.

@Derfs

Problem is that I don't think there are any PCIe controllers right now that provide more than 32 lanes. That's why I think the x16 slots only have 4 or 8 active lanes.

@Derfs

Sure, but even most AMD/intel-compatible mobos have one 16x 16-lane slot and one 16x connector with only 8 lanes.

so most likely at least one of the two 16x slots have at the most 8 lanes.

Which does not make all that much difference unless you want to play the very latest games at high resolution, since 8 lanes is plenty of bandwidth.

edit: For the reason Codesmith mentioned above.

The cpu edge is rounded, the very same as by the Cell CPUs...

this could be it.... :)

I think PCI Express x16 slots work in x8 configuration under SLI don't they? Otherwise high-end PC boards would have the same problem.

While that would be great, I'd actually not like it so much... an 8 core monster would not come cheap.

@DaFreak

What current PowerPC has 8 cores?

Every task is running on one of the 8 SPU units of the cell chip [quote]
