stupid question from my side - for my unterstanding...
this new hardware is done by "a-eon technology" which is not "hyperion".
the "MAP" is hyperions "project".

so what exactly is the MAP now?
is it the adoption of os4.x to multi core? or smth else?

Well, the MAP could be getting OS4.x to run on this hardware :)

hehe, i very much doubt that a riddle that mostly involves classical mythology also takes 20th century "satanism" into account :)
also way too obvious, as you can find that entry with taking the exact spelling from the riddle!

What is X?

If it is this XCore stuff, it will be impressive, if only because AmigaOS will become the defacto software development platform for one.

Well, unless it also runs Linux of course.
Still, other markets are good.

also: some other interesting trees:

the (libanese) cedar: as lebanon is considered to be the area of ancient phoenician land, the phoenicians definitely saw that one :)
- can't find a company or person that would somehow connect the cedar with the amiga though

the oak (acorn :)
- now there was a company, and if rougue hadn't said that it definitely is ppc, i would thus think about arm, but i guess that's a false guess.

the apple is still an option
- could mean, they borrowed some technology from them, or indicate that indeed pa-semi is in the game

just some thoughts :)

CPU thoughts

So its hinted to not be any particular number of cores. Hmmm.

Reprogrammable in an FPGA? Neat idea, but they claim this to be a performance machine, and I don't consider FPGA implementation to be high-performance capable. My XE G4 would do better.

CPU chip socket? What PowerPC does that anymore, they're all BGA. And how many various SOC PPCs have similar pinouts to share a socket?

Cell? Ben is said to like it, and it's definition allows varying number of SPE units. (Requires one G5 PPC if I recall) But I don't think of Cell as very low-power, and filling up SPEs to try and achieve 20W power consumption seems like an easy task. Cell is said to require specialty memory, is that available in convenient memory modules for thems memory slots?

Modular? (accelerator-alike?) Interesting, and definitely how I'd do it. There's plenty of module standards out there with PPCs on them. Could allow varying CPU cores based on owner choice. I'm only well read on one module standard though, and I'd include a SB600 on this kind of module itself, not on the motherboard as I'm guessing happened here. Could explain the CPU area screw holes as an alternative to heatsink mount theory. I've briefly discussed with Ben, Hans-Joerg, and one or two others in the past my module ideology, I'd be happy like crazy if they found someone with more time than me to do something with it. :)

@ddni

ok sorry, i didn't really read the link.
i don't know too much about crowley apart from some tv documentaries and word-of-mouth, so i am not familiar with his sources for his ideas and writings.

A tree with branches can have many forms.

Such as a company like CBM (Commodore)

It's not eight cores, that is what the hint in the web page, well, hints at. The CPU is multi-core. X, OTOH, is different.

And X is not the CPU.

@Smurfen

true,
probably it is to be understood in a much more metaphorical way, and probably it's pointless to search for a real tree as symbol...
still fun though to search
:)

@Rogue

You should now leave a promises: to tell us all the riddle solutions in the way the creators have thinked about those puzzle, in relation to their respective meaning.

@Rogue

But I think we already have guessed 1 core, 2 core and 8 core.
So it's a 3 core chip then? But with Xenon we would have too many X letters.
So I bet 2 core Titan.

And the number of cores is obscure because xena has some core(s) as well, right?
So xena has one or a few Xcore cores and Xorro bus is for it's xlink + I/O.
Therefore. We could use it for video (but not only). Or we could use it for game I/O (but not only). etc...

other.... I was also wondering that here&there mentioned eye stuff was something related to eye movement detection, but I hope it's not (just) that....

@ all

Not sure if this has been answered yet, but Mentor is your likely Greek mythological connection....

In Greek mythology, Mentor (Greek: Μέντωρ / Méntōr; gen.: Μέντορος)[1] was the son of Alcumus and, in his old age, a friend of Odysseus. When Odysseus left for the Trojan War he placed Mentor in charge of his son, Telemachus, and of his palace. When Athena visited Telemachus she took the disguise of Mentor to hide herself from the suitors of Telemachus' mother Penelope.[2] As Mentor, the goddess encourages Telemachus to stand up against the suitors and go abroad to find out what happened to his father.

Mentor Graphics are also an A-Eon partner.......

They can't have. They could only have used Polaris until reaching the equator then it would be permanently below the horizon.

what we know so far:
cpu is powerpc, multicore.
the whole is a complete computer, high end.
the X is probably xcore.
final product seems already done (rev 1.0, not an evaluation board and
hyperion have two of them working with linux at least)

this looks very interesting. i wonder how far the os4 port is ready for this..
hopefully lots of ex-amigans like myself will buy one and return.
can't wait to hear the price and availability dates.

Maybe the Tweed. Berwick has over the centuries been part of Scotland (Celtic) then England (Anglo-Saxon) several times.

Goodness knows what this has to do with the puzzle though.
