@TheDaddy

There's no pleasing all. I, for myself, am still thinking about a way to get this beast into my house while keeping the wife happy.... Guess more than a new bathroom is needed....

That is the human nature.

The natural state of mind is propably uncontent.

Anyway, the problem Amiga hardware has, is that it will always be compared with IBM-PC clones, which are very cheap today, compared with 15 years ago, so the price of AmigaONE, SAM and now X will be questioned; "Is it really worth the extra money?".

If this AmigaOne Power X price can stay below the price of AmigaOne when it came, then at least I am content.

It's from The Hobbit. Riddles in the dark. It's a fish.
In the context it's given in the source code, and given it's so well-known, it's just a joke. I believe that's why no-one has bothered to comment on it thus far.

Correct. Concentrate on the other two riddles. ;^)

I suppose the hint within this thread that has been overlooked afterwards is the comment pointing to the germanic mythology, i.e. Yggdrasil being the tree Andrew is talking about (which would also fit to the reference to the german tribe of the Saxons).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yggdrasil

Edit: This comment, quote:

Quote:

Yggdrasill shivers,
the ash, as it stands.
The old tree groans,
and the giant slips free.

Has already been found out what has been uploaded to Wikimedia, an action spotted when the first signs of a-eon arose?

Amazing since they don't know either.

That just shows you the mentality involved. This sort of thing is bound to happen from some people. It will happen all along - there are always the negative people - if they want to be like that then let them but let's make sure they don't bring everyone down with them.

No surprise there. Up until this point none of the Amiga systems had any significant future - certainly not MOS or AROS. Not that these aren't accomplished products - they are - but they just don't have the backing required for significant success - they will never make an impact.

Up until now neither did the Amiga and it is still far from certain - but this is the Amiga's last chance to make it back - and its best one.

@tomazkid

I think the vast majority of people have been quite positive about the campaign, including over on MorphZone.
Given the fact that no specs have yet been released yet, wild speculation is bound to flare up a bit, and some people will always be negative (Can't please all the people, etc).

Personally, I'm quite excited about it. And I haven't run an AmigaOS since I sold my XE (which at the time was 4.0 pre-release iirc), and am currently running MorphOS on Mac mini.

Just the PCIe alone makes it stand out, the processor will (hopefully) be a bonus, with future expandabiliity of the OS in mind (ie 64-bit running in 32-bit mode and/or multi-core, with AmigaOS running on single core initially).
And X... well, who knows, but it will be the cherry on top.

The price will be what the price will be...

amen to that

This is entertaining, fun, a bit like a game, good PR.
While guessing wild guesses are part of the game as well.
