I do suppose dual-boot with Linux is not an option at this point though (I recall hearing indications of this, but I don't know the latest dig on it)? . |
Hyperion did a good job here.
In menu there is now two sets of boot args one for linux and one for AmigaOS you can stop the auto boot just like you can now by hitting any key and tell it what you want to boot into.
Example Boota boots me into the amiga partition.
or as I have done in the past tftpboot would boot the AmigaOS4.0 off my A1200 HD on the network.

That's probably the one guy on television who will always remain cool, no matter the era. Not only that - he was cool enough to support Amiga back in the day when it was not even conceived! Imagine that! . SlimJim |

True but how many newbies are gonna have a dualboot system most will have hopefully just AOS4.0 so if it boots straight into that who cares.
most of the current Aone owners out here has already had thier linux trial by fire right of passage. So this will seem like candy.
Also seeing how I don't really know jack about uboot there might already be an easier way built in.

Well, I don't know about U-Boot 1.0, but in the version us mere mortals use, there isn't. You can define scripts and run them. Scripts are just set in environmental variables, I can't remember how you run them off-hand but it is something like "exec ".
There ideally needs to be a multi-boot menu so you can define items and associate commands with them. So you could have:
1. AmigaOS 4 2. Debian Linux
and then you could select which OS you want, with the default (which executes "bootd") being selected if no key is pressed within a user-definable amount of seconds.
However, at the moment I would be quite happy with OS4 booting by default and me having to manually type the command in to run Linux, and I'm sure most people will be happy with this arrangement too, at least until OS4 final is released.

I?m already stocked-up with unused AGP/PCI graphic cards, Keyboard, Mouse, PC133 modules, ~300W PS, ATX Cases, Seagate IDE HDs, Realtek Nics, and CL Emu10K sound cards. All I need is mainboard, processor and AOS4 OEM. The eMac has bundled itself out as a candidate. Pegy II HW would be a candidate IF it runs AOS4.0 OEM (not factoring MOS).

I'm assuming that's in USD. I wonder IF there?s competition between A1 dealers? What you do think of Anything-Amiga's A1-XE prices? Don?t you have a trade discount IF your in a business selling PC components? _________________ Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB Amiga 1200 (Rev 1D1, KS 3.2, PiStorm32lite/RPi 4B 4GB/Emu68) Amiga 500 (Rev 6A, KS 3.2, PiStorm/RPi 3a/Emu68) |

He would be talking about 1.0. Our version doesn't support multiple bootargs because it doesn't need to, since we don't have OS 4 yet. |

it's called a resale certificate so I don't have to pay sales tax. 8.5% were I live.
Some components can be had resale in the states better than wholesale.
I sell components in my shop daily to consumers for less than "Dealer prices". example I sell X174 monitors for $721.00 I have to because Amazon.com sells it for 731.00
If you called nuevo and became a dealer and ordered ten of these monitors they would sell them to you for $811.00 each because that is Dealer cost.
Many small dealers in the states are devastated by the big megastores because they can sell stuff to the public for far less then they can buy it as a dealer.
Most Amiga dealers fall into this category and are forced to sell merchandise for very little profit and even then they get castigated because of the higher cost of their wares.
I don't think there is alot of competition Amongst Amiga dealers in the states because most need each other to survive. They gather together to purchase things or trade back and forth on items.
AnythingAmigas price I don't know does Australia charge VAT and I have know Idea what the customes charges are like down there.
one more example I am a dealer for VertexStandard commercial radios. I asked to buy a FT100 Ham rig they said no problem and would sell it to me for Dealer cost of $1256.00 each and I would only be allowed to buy two at that special price. I called the guy down at HAM radio Outlet he sold it to me over the counter for $750.00

There is a lot at play in the Australian market which might easily explain Amigaanything's prices (which is what I paid and from whom I bought).
1) there is a 10% GST tax plus other duties. 2) the currency has recently gained in value (the boards were purchased a while ago I guess).
When I bought my board several months ago, my calaculations showed that the price was not far different from buying it overseas. The the aussie dollar was worth 55 cents or so US, now it is about 72 cents, that makes a big differenece. _________________ Greg Schofield, Perth Australia |

I figured there might be a reason for Anythings prices. Most dealers are painfully aware of the slim cost to profit margin on these boards. M
