Surely ACube can remain in partnership with Hyperion to provide "entry-level" hardware, while someone else provides the "higher-level" hardware? Is there any reason why there can't be two or more suppliers of differently-aimed products?

If that was the intent, then why would Hyperion make the announcement early? Maybe Hyperion wants people who were about to buy a SAM to wait and get an X1000 instead?

I know there's been talk of the X1000 being 'High-end' and the SAM being 'budget', this kind of thing can only work if the SAM was indeed 'cheap'.

Don't be too surprised if ACube stop making (distributing) any Amiga hardware in the next few months.

@NovaCoder

Fair enough and fair call.

If you place logic behind it then true, it is potentially possible that the SAM boards will stop production.

But to bluntly state it without an announcement like the new user has done, is almost considered trolling isnt it?

Cheers

P.S. Then again, the SAM boards may just be cut in price slightly, and they continue production for other markets (as this board was around before AMIGA OS ran on it)

Cheers again.

To put it another way, if they are no longer a strategic partner of Hyperion’s there would be no point remaining in the Amiga hardware business.

If they are (still) a partner, why would Hyperion use someone else to produce the X1000 and announce it before it is ready for sale

That's exactly what I wanna know! I'm sure there will be some nice add on expansion for the FPGA port on the Sam in the future and ughh..cough ..cough..our backplates please

Also, it would be nice if HW providers PR department would improve in future.

Acube has been pretty tight lipped about SAM FPGA dev material, the missing connectors of some boards, backplate, I/O extender, etc etc...

I hope when we finally get more x1000 info, also acube-Hyperion relation is clarified etc... Is Acube going to be a x1000 distributors?
Is there plans to get SAMs to xena compatible, etc.?

Perhaps because ACube want to concentrate on the low-end market and don't have the resources to develop high-end boards? I think it was pretty clear from the X1000 pages that the idea is that ACube covers low-end, and A-EON covers high-end.

They couldn't really delay the announcement any longer, because people were getting very frustrated about not knowing what it is that they're working on. In order to stop people from leaving due to frustration and feeling "left out" and just giving up, they had to finally come forward and let them in on what's being worked on. This will likely affect Sam sales, but probably not to such a great extent, because those who found the Sam to be too underpowered for their taste were not likely to buy one anyway, while those who found it too expensive so far are not likely to buy an even more expensive board.

The X1000 looks to be a really nice piece of hardware, however we all expect it to be considerably more expensive than the Sam boards and way beyond the budget of many people. Therefore ACube can (and should) exploit the low-end market by bringing out perhaps a 460EX-based board with DDR2, PCI-Express, L2 cache, etc. at 1GHz+ clock speeds. It could be available for a similar price as the Sam-Flex but it could have a much bigger market than the Sam-Flex due to the fact that CPU performance would be at least 3 times that of the Sam440 (thanks to the L2 cache and the higher clock speed) and PCI Express would allow you to use modern PCIE graphics cards just like X1000 users, so it could be the perfect successor of the Sam440.

Budget is a relative, not absolute term.

And I would be perfectly willing to buy one, especially if it was the MiniITX form factor.

as i see it when hyperion announce new hw months or maybe years before release. something is serious gone wrong becouse this is what we call backstabbing. there is no other words for it really, if hyperion have had two weeks release after the announcment. it would have been understandable, but this is not.... and i guess we can say goodbye to the backplates to now. becouse acube is slowly getting out of this amiga business as we speak. i would like to thank acube for the sam it was great as long it lasted, and wish them all good in further hw development. shame on you hyperion...

@amigauser

Don't read too much into it, we're not leaving the amiga market, just fading out a product which was already out for 3 years.

As we said at the Pianeta Amiga show in September, there will be eventually a new hardware from us later this year, but there are some conditions for this to happen, and the first one is: we need to sell a certain amount of Flex boards.

For the backplate, it will be available around end March / beginning April this year (crossing fingers...)

Uh - end of march, ok then.

I really love my mini-itx SAM - he's so cute and silent.

Maybe my new case will help you sell a few more boards

But promise a more powerful mini-itx!

Acube products are aimed at the low end market, while the X1000 is for high end. If acube can keep prices significantly lower than the X1000, then i dont see the problem.

Is funny how people have been moaning and complaining about lack of information and when hyperion finally releases information you even complain and moan about that as well.

CORRECT !!!

Let's say Acube keeps prices significantly lower than X1000, I would say a mini-itx will still sell better than a flex.

On the other hand, there are maybe still a lot of unsold Flexes, which have to be sold first, and yes this is the right time to do it... before X1000 comes
