I'm not saying never. I hope it becomes a decent home option. I'd be really surprised if it could be used for business, but who cares? It doesn't have to be everything to everyone.
If these machines appear in the next 12 months, it'll be the only market for AROS in that timeframe. I'm telling it like it is - I think you're being a bit melodramatic to say I've doomed the whole Amiga idea.

It would depend on several factors, but for a general answer, yes.

From http://www.osnews.com/story/22360/Hyperion_Amiga_Inc_Reach_Settlement_All_Legal_Issues_Resolved
Within the framework of the settlement agreement Hyperion is granted an exclusive, perpetual, worldwide right to AmigaOS 3.1 in order to use, develop, modify, commercialize, distribute and market AmigaOS 4.x (and subsequent versions of AmigaOS including without limitation AmigaOS 5) in any form, on any medium and for any current or future hardware platform under the exclusive trademark "AmigaOS" (Amiga operating system) and using other associated trademarks (such as the "BoingBall" logo).
Where's "Commodore-Amiga(1)" combo label?
1. Follows "Commodore 64" combo label

Right to use the AmigaOS name is different from the right to use the Amiga name. I don't think they've got a leg to stand on.

This is the kind of comments i don't fully understand and even find quite ridiculous given your posting history... what's stopped you from using AROS until today?

I must agree, I really don't care about the name. And now I fear it will get AROS in trouble because of it. We would have been better off without it. (OK now I was speaking as if this wasn't fiction anymore which I still will believe until I see evidence of other things.) IMHO AROS is mature enough to stand on it's own merits. Commodore AROS (tm) would have been just as good. |
I suspect this may become a sort of "boomerang" for AROS in some respects... not to mention the fact that if i decide to buy some "AROS-specific" hardware i'd rather go for Imica or Ares, at least i'd know my money goes to real bounties instead to some mysterious company and indirectly to Amiga Inc

I womder if this will give Bill MacEwen redemption in the Amiga world by bringing Amiga to x86 in the form of AROS. He is making it official, by using AROS as the Amiga Replacement OS (instead of OS5) and x86 hardware (which he likes.)
So, will Bill be vindicated? Will he be forgiven for past wrongs by doing what a host of people wanted, bringing Amiga officially to x86?
With a custom case. |

Another waste of time thread. Stop talking about this so-called 'Commodore' and they will go away - continue talking about them only gives them fuel to continue. After a little investigation even the so-called financial partner hasn't even filed their accounts on time since 2008 and I am no accountant, but I certainly don't see many zeroes in their accounts.
Without AmigaOS they can't truly be an Amiga thus the debate ends there.
Even if they snazzed up the website consumers aren't dumb they will see right through this or they will be left completely confused.
"Why are they showing me every OS under the sun? What operating system does this thing I actually come with?"
The operating environment in which the user operates is what identifies Workbench as Amiga in the much same way as Finder represents Mac.
There is no doubt in my mind that Hyperion-Entertainment and A-Eon will be questioning its legality and proceeding accordingly before, during and after the release of the real Amiga - the X1000.

Back in 1989, I don't recall "AmigaOS" label being advertised.
I remembered something like Amiga 500 from Commodore or Commodore-Amiga under 1000 bucks (AUD).Last edited by Hammer on 01-Sep-2010 at 03:18 PM.

No worries - keep that spirit! We're moving in the right direction that's for sure. I have a big list of AROS's progress in 2010 that I was going to post. It's pretty amazing what's happened in less than a year...

It seems so... Many of the comments at engadget article were positive. I just hope this all is real because this could be the rebirth I wanted of 2 brands very dear to me.
I'm just looking at a MSI all-in-one Wind Top computer... Can't think of a reason why I wouldn't buy a commodore all-in-one instead. _________________ The shadow is cast on who you used to be, Let me set you free.
