are you dreaming? timberwolf was intended for os4.1 not for anything below that, it was clearly stated numerous times. so yes, if it ever arrives on classic together with os4.1 update it will take advantage of your ppc.. as for warpos, forget it.
|
No - actually I'm quite awake.
I don't know Timberwolf or for which version(s) of AmigaOS it is meant for - I just read that Tomas wrote in his posting (#5) to samo79
We really do need a modern browser in meantime. I also think timberwolf might be a bit too heavy for the lowest end machines like classic and lower end models of Sam. and cha05e90 replied in his post (#7) that it is quite "snappy on his 667MHz SAM" .
So I naturally asked myself how it performs on the classic Amigas - see, no sleeping/dreaming involved._________________ Ciao

i dont know how have you missed all this uproar about timberwolf last year. but well, from what was said any version for amigaos below version 4.1 is out of question. this includes of course warpos as well as all original 68k amiga oses. not that it was technically completely impossible i think, but i would not allow me an opinion. |

I could imagine that - from MHz point of view - the Phase 5 PPC systems might be *too* low end. Maybe not. One thing is for sure: You need a lot of RAM! Maybe some of our MicroA1 users might have an idea how it is to run that alpha version with 256 MB RAM... _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

That must be due to the fact that I still have to use OS 3.9/WarpOS 16.1 as my main OS on my good old trusty A4kPPC.
I have an "experimental" OS 4.0 classic install, but due to the fact that I have USB 2.0 highspeed with DENEB and POSEIDON in OS 3.9, while OS 4 just has USB 1.1 support and that my NIC with a newer RTL chip works flawlessly in OS 3.9, while the newer OS version requires an older RTL chip to get web access and not to forget the 128 mB RAM limitation, I preferred to stay with OS 3.9 until really powerful hardware (like the A1X1000) to run OS 4.x on becomes available or the weird situation for OS 4 on classics improves.
So it came that I wasn't really focussed on OS4 browsers or OS4 soft in general, but on OS 3.x soft.
Now we have ZorRAM on sale and OS 4.1 classic is around the corner - and even really powerful hw is on the way (A1X1000). So I think its time for me now to become more familiar with OS 4.x and its native apps.
I hope OS 4.1 classic will support USB 2.0 and networking cards with newer RTL chips - and if so, I'll buy a ZorRAM 256 and OS 4.1 classic and so can get more involved in this OS 4 thingie on my good old trusty A4kPPC - until the A1X1k becames available._________________ Ciao

Impossible ? why ? You mean about MUI4 deps ?
@Deniil715
You have experience with MUI and you are a very good programmer, maybe look at this source ? just a quick look ... _________________ BACK FOR THE FUTURE

Couldn't reproduce that with MorphOS-OWB, so it seems this issue has either been fixed by Fab or simply isn't present in the later WebKit-revisions.
Either that or it is an OS4(-OWB) specific b^H feature _________________ - We don't need good ideas, we haven't run out on bad ones yet - blame Canada |

| @Kronos I dont know much about it, but i think some of the other suspected it was webkit as well as it wasnt present in versions that used earlier webkit. |

same here, except my os4 has been practically abandoned all along and im not waiting for any x1000 to come anymore. 68k gives me enough kicks for the time being. |

its not only mui4, there has to be more mos dependencies but nothing that couldnt be handled according to fab. first things first, you will need cmake, perhaps best on a crosscompiler setup, thats how he is doing. i have it too and the source, but have not found time to get into it. except that it is very likely far beynd my skills.
also there was an initiative to update zune for mui4 compatibility, the main goal being to make mos owb portable. a bounty is established on power2people. its initially for aros of course, but shinkuro as os4 user had zune os4 port in mind after update has been finished. alas there is none dedicated to do that so it slowly gets forgotten.

| I use OWB 3.30 every day without any problem. Ok, it's a bit slow sometimes, but does its job very well.

Yes, the MOS dependencies makes it (very) hard to port it to OS3, but MOS has basically the same new features as OS4 so it will most likely be a matter of #ifdef the name of the function and put the parameters correctly. I think MOS has very few features OS4 doesn't have, and vice versa. They were just implemented in parallell and got different names and slightly different usage.
As for very specific stuff (connecting to ambient?), just #ifdef the code away or rewrite for WB. No big deal (without looking at the code... ).
For MUI4 there may have to be some reinveting of the wheel (which is typical for back ports). But as far as I understood this it neither something that can't be solved with a few #ifdef's and some patch code/rewrites.
Since I now have a MacMini I'd like to do it, but time is sorely lacking, as always Last edited by Deniil715 on 10-Dec-2010 at 06:22 PM.

can you be more precise on that, what features os3 actually lacks that os4 has and which are crucial for this port? are you talking about dependencies? i think this is not a show stopper, even if for instance cairo is untested at this time. we have qute advanced linux compatibility layer with ixemul if need be, we have zune and aros compatibility to certain extent. remember too that maybe not every feature is absolutely necessary. I know about CMake and cross-compilers deps, it's the same for all Amiga flavour ...

Yes but this is a long term project, we need a browser in a resonable time, not 1 or 2 years, this bounty serve:
- Fix all Zune bugs - Update Zune API to latest MUI4 API cloning them or somethings similar - Port OWB MUI to AROS - Then re-port Zune on OS4
... and finally port this Zunish OWB on AmigaOS4 !
ehm ...
@Deniil715
Yes agree isn't impossible, we may split the efforts and create a sort of team to handle this port (2 or max 3 developers), so eventually this will save a lot of work from your side
Don't forget that Fab is very friendly so he may help a lot !
If needed we may setup a bounty too, would be great

I would really recommend that you consider how you conduct yourself at times. IN the past 30 minutes, I have read through several of your posts and all come across as quite harsh in tone / borderline abusive and do actually (for all intents and purposes) sound like trolling.
While you may have legitimate points to make, and would like answers to, repeating yourself over and over in (I count 4 different threads as of this moment), is I am afraid a textbook definition of trolling.
Take this as a warning. _________________ Test sig (new) |

| What we Amigan's have to do is support free software. I make sure that I donate to at least the 5 applications I use the most if they are free. thus OWB and Yam were at the top of my list as were Wookiechat and Sabremsn. The feedback I received from the developers was very good. Thus I will never complain about a developer. They need our financial support as it gives then a sense that not all users are leeches... | You guys remind me of a bunch of people on one side of a canyon complaining about how you want to get to the other side. You wish a bridge would magically appear for you so you could walk over it, but bridges don't magically appear. You are provided with the tools, materials and plans to build your own bridge, but you complain that it would take too long to build and go back to wishing the magic bridge will appear.
If you want OWB donate towards the Zune bounty. It's the logical first step to getting a far more updated OWB on OS4, and that's not the only program you gain in the process. There are plenty of other programs that could make their way over to OS4 once we get an updated Zune to replace the aging MUI3.9.
Time to put your money where your mouth is.
