@Metalheart

Sorry - well, basically we don't know any more than you! It seems C=USA are planning to make something called Workbench 5.0.

My bet is they're going to pre-install a bunch of other people's artwork and themes on Ubuntu without asking for permission first, and call that "Workbench 5.0".

Yes, I can confirm/deny that commodore USA has plans to ship an amiga-branded product with a 'workbench'-branded OS assuming all legal issues surrounding the trademark usage in the US is settled.

Did C-USA buy AROS ?

Of course not, AROS is an "Open Source Project", nobody can buy it.

What WB5 all about ?

Just something they want to sell, BTW.: Workbench, Kickstart and AmigaDOS where the names used for the Amiga operation system before AmigaOS3.1

Can't find any info on it.

Never mind, they took something existing, something that must have been Open Sourde or otherwise cheap and gave it a new name.

Maybe something like here:

Of course with some icons for UAE, OpenOffice and Vice

i think you meant to 'confirm,' yes? if so, let us in on the details when you can. i'd be very interested in screenshots as well once the theme is finalized. i hope you'll make it available as a GNOME theme for those of us out there without commodore-branded kit. my fedora desktop could use a good sprucin' up.

No, I said "Yes, I can confirm/deny that......"
You asked if I could confirm or deny...., and I answered, "yes, I can confirm or deny that...."

I think you know what 'eliyahu' was asking you.

@Tomas

Well they are using Workbench 5.0, if they do then its surely because they secured the rights to do so.
They build computer seven if they're PC, but every computers except retro ones are PC nowadays. It doesn't matter if the CPU is a PPC or an X86.
New architectures are only available on console like PS3 and Xbox 360 these are hardware like the original Amiga.

Amiga 1000/2000/3000 were pictured like those on commodoreusa.net, the C64 version look great (even if plastic are not like the real one but I suppose that i'll change).
They were no mention to CPU but ability to run windows mean X86. To build PC, that fit in custom cases means money and strategy. If I were them I'll for sure use the secured brand to make money while satisfying customers that's normal, common sense. Then in the end one more product branded Commodore Amiga is not a bad thing in the world dominated by PC. They'll always be people wanting and X1000 or a SAM, they believe its the real Amiga successor, other think that its Morphos, others are too scared to invest again in the Amiga, since they're sure to be disappointed again, these ones would go the Aros way because its not owned by a company. Many are waiting and are true believers but in the end the more products you've the more choice.
Of course C-USA was not planned in the big picture, they want a piece of the cake even its a small one, if they can succeed why not let them a chance?
Why do we still need to fight?, in the past it was red vs blue, now that we've a new kid in town its starting all over again.
Choice your camp, do creative things with the computer you choose and stop bashing each others.

My .2 cents
Kamel

I got it also today... you can not beleive what belongs to the community in this
sad present time...

Hopefully after the new C=USA web goes online, some secrets will come onto
their place...

Heres a question for the "Workbench 5 Question thread." http://www.commodore-amiga.org/en/forum/6-workbench-5-software-development- Why isnt there an introduction written about workbench 5 detailing it so we dont have to ask questions?

As told before I'm not involved at all with C-USA, just find interesting to dig infos, as I was at work I didn't had the chance to save html pages for you to read but it seems that the wait is almost over.

My .2 cents about the site before it opens, the Amiga 1000, 2000 and 3000 are identical for what I've seen. They should be a bit different in the design, at least with a logo on it.
As for the future models page, I would omit them, just show what you'll deliver.

The best one IMHO is the C64 prototype, don't forget to show it, but again color and plastic aspect are different than the "real" C64, would be nice if it was the same, but again its just a prototype. (for those asking it was not the CG previously shown)

Regards
Kamel
