| Install was very fast, I comment every system file, so a check after showed a clean intall.
Only issue after was with DOpus, I start it in the backgroung on boot up. The line gave me a GR or an open shell with an error message. The start line was "run >HIL: work/tools/dopus4/directoryopus -i", had to change it to "run *>NIL: work/tools/dopus4/directoryopus -i", added the star. No problems on boot up now, thanks Hyperion.

Well, actually the hardware is part of the problem... as I mentioned earlier, the pixel clock calculation of P96 OS4 version was a bit off VESA standard signal definitions all the time.
This gives wavy picture on a TFT (you will see what I mean, if you have a TFT. You will notice vertical blur in lines placed in near equal distance to each other on your display, until your TFT has a VERY good auto adjust function, that is). There was a bug in P96Mode, too. You couldnt adjust the pixel clock value to a value equal to the VESA standard signal pixel clock value using the pixel clock slider. It was always a bit off.
On a CRT, you will have missing sharpness in higher resolutions (because of the much higher line frequency the slight off pixel clock has more influence on the resulting signal). I tried hard to get a quite good picture on my 22" CRT, and I couldnt read very small fonts if I sit a bit back from my display. This has changed definetly.
I dont know whats happened, though. I didnt change anything, but now Im able to read even smaller fonts from some distance. Maybe my CRT becomes better with years?
The hardware quality is responsible for the shadow artefacts you will see in areas of high contrast changes, e.g. black character in bold style on white background. If you look at the right edge of the character, you will see some kind of shadow of the character on the white background. This is due to bad (or even missing) shielding of the HF signal way on the motherboard and increases with higher vertical frequency. Last edited by whose on 31-Aug-2011 at 06:14 PM.

| I discovered some other nice change... RoadShow does work much better now. I have my Micro A1 connected to a PC providing the internet connection. Before update 3 it could take some time until the A1 reaches full connection speed, now it responses instantly after boot.
Nice

Before Update3 released (Update2 level beta): (test done in June) According to GfxBench2D results:
HIS Radeon HD 4650 1GB/2.8GB 128Bit DDR2 (DirectX Sam460ex 1920×1080@60 (32 bit) 2,837.83
Now with Update3 (test done in August 28th)
HIS Radeon HD 4650 1GB/2.8GB 128Bit DDR2 (DirectX Sam460ex 1920×1080@60 (32 bit) 3,029.96
At least average %6 speed-up.

and now I can let the OS installers do what they want and I don't have to pollute SYS: itself with 3rd-party stuff which makes it a whole lot easier to find "the bad guys" and to do a "clean" update (just put away CustomSys and update, then put it back again). |
the only problem with that solution is, that installers usually install e.g. libraries in LIBS: and they use the very first LIBS assign in the assign chain. and that is - sys:libs... marvel solves this, though.

I've just created a blank 2gb partition. Inatalled update1. Installed update2. Inatalled update3. Changed screen settings. Setup network settings (default) Installed some of the 3rd party apps. Rebooted and eveything seems fine.
This is on am A1XEG3-800.
Now I'm off to get a USB2.0 card. _________________ Peter Swallow. A1XEG3-800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC], running OS4.1FE, using ac97 onboard sound.

I don't think that this is right. If your shared library is, in fact, only used by your application, then PROGDIR: is the right place. However, if it is a general purpose shared library used by multiple different apps (e.g., avcodec.library), then it should still go into LIBS: where it is available to all. Otherwise you'd end up with multiple copies of the same library strewn across your hard-drive; not good.

| So, I just installed Update 3 on my Sam440ep-flex... The procedure went without any problems
Initial impressions:
* Yay, me like the new boot pic very very much * Oki... the system bootup seems little slower now :-S Well, expected with more stuff to load so not a big deal * Took one of my USB2 stick and... yes it seems to work great!! * Started OWB, went to AW.net... browsing feels faster, and wow, the scrolling feels much much faster compared to before * And the overall system... feels more snappier and responsive too
Haven't yet tested more than that...
*me-happy*

You're perfectly right ! Usually I'm thinking longer version of my text in my mind but then posting shorter version onto a forum. This time I was writing too much in hurry. I meant everything that's not shared between multiple apps. And shared stuff should always go to one fixed place not multiple fixed places. _________________ Rock lobster bit me. After reboot scroll wheel problem went away, but now every time I reboot I get USB errors stating can't do something or other but USB seems to be working fine. Also when I launch new full version of DVPlayer I get massive corruption (random colours all over screen) but dont know what's causing it, Stephen author of DVPlayer tells me it's working fine on his machine with OS 4.1.3! _________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card. |

| I'm confused with the new MUI. Programs I set up previously, will open up on the screen I configured for them, even though they're not listed in "Screens" in the MUI prefs now.
If I add a screen to the MUI prefs, workbench is always there and underlined. How do I set a new screen to be the default for that program?
Edit: Weird. Had to use Test and Use before just clicking "Save". Still would be nice for older screens set up prior to Update 3 (like the one I set up for IBrowse) to show in that list, and for the screen being used to be underlined, instead of always "Workbench".
