@DBAlex

If I were you, I would consider buying an X5000. I did regret it, but only because I would have bought the 5040 version instead of the 020. On the other hand, I just followed the link to the AmigaKit website and the 040 version appears to be unavailable.

I think until A1222 is released might try OS4 in WinUAE.

Give it a go, but it's quite slow in emulation. Even my ooooold Sam440 is considerably faster than OS4 under WinUAE. I do use it on my laptop (a last year's Lenovo model) to test software, but it's not such a great fun.

Quite expensive if one's just testing the water, but yes, definitely worth it if you're serious about the "next generation retro" Plus, the ability to run MorphOS and Linux is a welcome bonus.

@DBAlex: No problem, welcome back. I also use AmigaOS4 emulated on a MacBookPro. But as Trixie said: Quite slow and not a real replacement for dedicated AOS4-hardware.

@Amigo1:

Maybe. although most of my work is done on Windows I have to admit. Mainly C#/MySQL stuff. I think I will just wait for the A1222 as the OS4 machine would be more of a hobby machine rather than a primary workstation.

@Trixie:

Ah thanks for the info. Yes will have a look.

Ah I didn't realise MorphOS ran on the X5000 too.

Still haven't tried it on my Mac Mini... didn't buy it for MorphOS bought one of the last PPC mini's the 1.5ghz it was just luck that MorphOS started supporting it. I dusted of my Pegasos in the last few days and it's still working luckily.

@AP:

Great. Well at least you now have a platform to try/test OS4 software on even if it's a bit slow.

Thanks. Sounds reasonable.

Take it that is for board only?

The price should include an OS4 license. Enhancer 2.0 will likely be bundled since it contains some essential drivers that are not part of so that might bump the price up a bit, it depends on how much profit they want to make on the boards. Trevor had floated the idea of selling the boards at cost and making money on software sales but I think it would have alienated third party dealers.

@Rose: It's much simpler: Is it so hard for you to let AmigaOS4-users just enjoy their hobby?

And BTW: Which "community" you are referring to? There isn't one homogeneous Amiga-community these days, there are AOS4-users, MorphOS-users, "Classic"-users etc.

Yes, for testing software it's ok. But I prefer real hardware. I had various AmigaOS4-systems in the past and after a longer break from AOS4 I pre-ordered a Tabor-board.

Ah nice. What did you have, an AmigaOne XE, Micro A1-C?

@DBAlex: Hm, my first One was a AmigaOne SE, later AmigaOne XE, PegasosII and (after a longer break) a SAMflex.

Some of them I bought second-hand, some of them new (and I didn't collect them, it was one after the other).
SAMflex was my last new buy. Tabor/AmigaOne1222 will be my next system (hopefully by the end of this year).

Kickstarting out of Lockdown

Quote:
A1222 Musings While the Covid-19 has certainly slowed the A1222 Plus Early adopter release schedule, work has continued despite the delays caused by the pandemic. A1222 version 1.3 The project is being controlled by Matthew Leaman and he recently took delivery of the updated layout files from James Felix, the former Ultra Varisys engineer who was a key designer of the original Tabor board. The new motherboard, renamed A1222 v1.3, includes replacements for several obsolete minor components. Now Matthew can push ahead with producing a small batch of boards to ensure there are no surprises with the updated design after which he will give the green light to manufacture the Early Adopter batch. Over to you Matthew..........

@Spectre660

The Vultures&Vampires book cover looks overdone. I hope they at least reduce the number of winged beasts carrying away the boing ball in the final design.

Wow! The PS5 is definitely going to be out before the A1222 is in stock with AmigaKit for general purchase IMHO. Also, can anyone buy the Amiga version of Cinemareware's Wings game or is this now lost in development hell?

So I guess Blender, Hollywood and Tower57 (which I already own on the Mac) would be fun to use for my £400-ish but is there anything else I should be excited about using instead of Dreams VR on the PS5? Just a question

@BigD

If you enjoy a bit of gaming, there are plenty to choose from on AOS 4. Here are a few examples of titles you can enjoy with the OS:

- M.A.C.E. (nice and polished shoot'em up game with great graphics!)
- Gorky 17 (interesting strategy/RPG game)
- Giana's Return - Remake of Giana Sisters (excellent platformer from Retroguru)
- 1941 Extreme Deluxe (action-packed shoot'em up)
- The Secret of Middle City (looks good, but haven't tried it myself yet)

The website of HunoPPC contains a lot of software to check out:

http://hunoppc.amiga-projects.net/

And Entwickler-X:

http://www.amiboing.de/

The port of ScummVM was updated recently and supports a wide range of games. Here you can enjoy all kinds of classics like Curse of Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle.

As for productivity, I use Hollywood for Void's music-disk project "Feedback" (we are working on a new issue now). Love this tool and looking forward to learn more about it. If you decide to purchase it, I recommend getting the Designer-package. This one makes it possible to create programs without much code at all.
