@pavlor

I'm over 40 and not interested in Vampire at all...and btw, what happened to price/performance ratio so important for all AOS4 hw critics? More than half the price (Vampire vs Tabor) for less than 10% of performance...

...and I don't like A500/A1200 case while I admire Loriano's work. Bring A1000 case, it's so sexy!

@OlafS25

Price/perf ratio is like in a smartwatch (and with a Vampire it's 10 times worse and took 10 years to deliver but thats cool, thats ok!) but it doesn't matter until it gives me a lot of fun. I can imagine others have fun with a Vampire, MOS, AROS...thats why I don't rain on their parade. Unfortunately some of them don't return a favour.

I have only explained why people enjoy using a Vampire even if they know that it cannot compete with modern hardware and what emotions a vampire creates at many amigans.

Price/performance ratio has really nothing to do with it. Because of that I asked you about your SAM that has the same bad performance/price ratio compared to modern hardware and still you use it and are propably happy about it.

Compared to Vampire, even X1000 has better price/performance ratio...

Last time Amiga users really cared about price/performance was in the early 1990s, such arguments are meaningless now. We all enjoy our hobby - be it thanks to A1, old Mac or the Vampire.

now what?

It has no meaning today... I always wonder why people like you and the other one bring it in discussion

@OlafS25

If I remember correctly, it was always your argument in threads about NG hardware...

20 times is closer to reality.

Well, Gunnar et co should really tone down their promo-material. Capable of NG work loads? Of course.

i dont know. as if everybody else was about to tone down. at least they are successively delivering on many if not most of what they advertise.

I'm sure some would suggest that limiting conversations to rainbows and puppies would be great but it's not a reflection of reality either.

The elephant in the room is that there are two clearly different mindsets:

1. Hardware that keeps the legacy alive is key.

Price and performance don't really come into play because it's a hobbyist market of limited volume. Development is subsidized and not profit-driven.

2. Hardware that keeps the legacy alive prevents it from going forward.

New hardware is really just repackaged old technology that is no longer viable. Development needs to focus on the software so that the market will evolve and expand.

I genuinely don't think that community members in category #2 really have anything against the enthusiasm of people in category #1. Most are likely equally happy for them.

The issue is that the first option has a limited lifespan and pretty much concedes that the platform is just being kept alive to preserve the warm fuzzies.

So how do you eliminate the recurring arguments...?

Provide some indication of direction.

I believe the point here is not trying to limit arguments but bringing these arguments in each and every thread, even if totally unrelated. You may also notice that this happens 90% of the time in AOS4 related threads done by the same bunch of people.
This has the effect of "alienating" some less vocal people (like myself) that just want to enjoy their hobby but don't care anymore about participating in discussions because it's getting tiresome. Isn't this considered limiting conversations too? And it's done in a more "brutal" way.
Provide some indication of direction.

If you've been involved in the Amiga community for a while, the squabbling isn't particularly new and I'm sure most people have developed sophisticated filters.

I'm not suggesting that it is ever warranted, but a big part of the problem is lack of real information.
