...and the Amigakit webstore says [dramatic drumroll] NOTHING about Amigaone X5000! Not even when I search the site (only get two items of backplate and front panel)! No price, no info, no nothing!

It's on their website HERE

It took a while for the X1000 to be easily found on the website home page when it was first released.

So where is it, under the "amigaone / sam" -> "OS 4.1 Systems" category? Because I can't find it there. Or where should I look? In fact, I can't find it even if I search for "amigaone", or for "X5000" for that matter!

Yes and it's exactly this I'm talking about, the "secret handshake"/"only for the invited people in the know" mentality. It is "available" for those who knows how to get it, and (apparently) prepared to wait x amount of months. A creative use of the term "available" IMHO...

Ha ha! You and OlafS25 remind me of this guy from RE4

"What ya buying stranger?"

I guess this is the way that purchasing the X5000 works as well! Ask the right question, find the right link, know the right people, time your visit to the site at just the right moment and you to could find the "...selection of good things on sale, stranger."

God no, don't be silly!

Not in a million years! Not even if it was the last computer on earth and I was richer than Bill Gates!

You must be expert in this field - looking at your more than decade long crusade against OS4 on various Amiga forums. Of course, you used other name back in the good old days of the Blue/Red war.

@Spectre660

Thanks for the link, would probably have never known otherwise. Was expecting a big announcement here, or maybe a note on Amigakit, strange way to advertise the X5000 finally going on sale.

...but then I would've missed Trevor's dig at me.

Anyway, finally available. I was after the motherboard, going to build a complete system. Placed my order last night, price is just shy of 2200 NZD, but I will most likely also get stung by customs duty as well.

Doesn't appear to include a network card, no biggie I should be able to get one for around 20 NZD.

For a limited time a network card is provided with AmigaKit orders anyway...

A Realtek 10/100 PCI Network card is included for limited period whilst awaiting OS4.1 network driver from Hyperion Entertainment.

@outrun1978

I happily got NovaCoder's Wolfenstein3D port working tonight with sound and music

I've also been using Draw Studio 2 for use with my coursework! Still works great 20 years on!!

I'm also progressing with my DP5 animation and am immensely grateful to the AnimWebConverter coding team for improving my workflow and allowing me to add some polish in iMovie!!

So have to say loving my classic at the moment.

From the blog:
Quote:
On that note, I'm pleased to report that AmigaKit has recently posted details of its own Cyrus Plus motherboard deal on its website.

There's no mention of the X5000 being available on the website. Search for the Cyrus Plus. I presume the X5000 will come along later and will be listed where you can easily find it.

But don't let that get in the way of your ceaseless crusade

Then you misunderstood! It was released half a year ago, it has been "available" like this for quite some time now (like a quarter of the Pegasos 2's entire life span). No news here about this really...

I think the most interesting news is the photo of that huge pile of still unsold motherboards, and seeing Trevor ever so humbly trying to offload some of them to "dealers" (having them shouldering part of the risk) through some kind of marketing pull strategy...

Surely a good thing when you consider that hardware droughts that MorphOS OS4 and even 68k Amiga OS have suffered over the years.

Quote:

They are essentially a small business and you seem to expect them to open up massive credit lines. They are actually being very amenable to dealers by supplying hardware as and when they need it. By running things this way they are actually taking the risk away from dealers and leaving them with more capital to invest in a more diverse range of Amiga hardware and software.

He's saying not to wait around for dealers to list stock but to let them know you want a board/system and they'll get it supplied to you much sooner.

Why do you always have to try to put a negative spin on things? If Sweden ever have a referendum on EU membership, like the Brits did, you'd be an ideal candidate for heading up the pro EU campaign.
