There seem to occurred a lot of problems for AmiUpdate at the same time it became an AmigaOS 4.x-component. I haven't used AmiUpdate since the Guru-problems. Tonight I downloaded AmiUpdate 2.32 from the website manually and installed it. When I started AmiUpdate it said that there was a new version (2.32) ready to download and that my current version was 2.6. It was true, and it was dated to 2010.

Even weirder is that when after successful automatic update there is still a new version of AmiUpdate available (2.32) and it states that my current version still is 2.6 (it is, I have checked). Does this mean that instead of version 2.32 they now have version 2.6 from 2010 on the server but it presents itself as version 2.32?

@Niolator

Where did you install AmiUpdate? Did you run it in that location (aka: is the AppDir entry for this newe version "updated")?

Sys:System/AmiUpdate/AmiUpdate v2.32
Sys:System/AmiUpdate/Copystore v2.6
Sys:System/AmiUpdate/System_Rollback v2.2
Prefs:Update v53.8
Libs:update.library v53.11

Check your install & you need to do a soft re-boot because of the new update lib, do it by hand if need be.

@sundown

For some reason the last update of AmiUpdate didn't use the reboot daemon but some other method, which failed to operate. When I did the MUI (& WB doc) update, it was good again.

Never worked for me or others either, GR'ed on quit & had to reboot by hand, one way is as good as another.
It'll all work out soon, changes to improve the update system require AmiUpdate changes.

@cha05e90

I installed it in the default location. I have not checked the versions of the components yet (am away from home today). The strange thing is that if version 2.6 is not supplied by the server at the moment, where did I get it from? I didn't even own an AmigaNG when version 2.6 was the most recent. AmiUpdate worked fine until the Guru problems with version 2.25 so if I should have am older version installed it should be 2.24 or something like that.

@Niolator

The 2.6 version is in the archive that you downloaded from the Amiupdate.net site.
Not 2.23.
Looks like you cannot download the versions that update AmigaOS.
The route is to start with the version included with AmigOS update 6.
Any further update to Amiupdate have to be done using that version or later.
Makes sense to me now that Amiupdate is part of AmigaOS.
Safe thing to do is to copy any Amiupdate archive downloaded during an update
to Harddrive before the reboot in case things dont work during the installation.
That way you can try a manual installation.

@Niolator

If the update to 2.32 does not work try to save the 2.32 archive from ram: and copy the
update.library from this to LIBS:, reboot and try the update again.
I tried all kind of things,even got the 2.6 one myself, even installing the saved 2.32 archive did not work.Had to reinstall 2.31 from a backup and do the update.library thing and go from there.

My version (before trying the update 6-version):

AmiUpdate: 2.6
Copystore: 2.4
System_rollback: 2.2
update.library: 53.8
update prefs: 53.5

It is obvious that I have an older version of AmiUpdate. I am still convinced that I somehow got the older version from the server instead of the newest one as these are the versions in my archive.

@Niolator

After installing update 6 again I noticed that the update.library was updated but AmiUpdate produced a guru now. So I made a new attempt to download the 2.32 archive and this time it was a different one than the one i downloaded the other day (the file sizes differed). Now it seems to work fine as my AmiUpdate is version 2.32.

I still cant understand why I got the 2.6 version at first.

It's been advised to download v2.32 here, http://www.amiupdate.net/files/AmiUpdate.lha & install by hand if you're still having problems.

@all

Let me make this clear, grab the update off the site, unarchive it & MANUALLY install AmiUpdate 2.32 & MANUALLY install update.library 53.11.

DO NOT USE THE INSTALL SCRIPT!!!

It's the install script thats not working right, hope thats clear...

OK but the install script in update 6 seem to have fixed it for me. After that the update.library was all right.

btw.

I've used autoupdated AmiUpdate all the time.

Only hickup was around the 2.25 where I had to disable it from wb startup and use ignore DSI errors (&wait a few minutes) to make it work when starting it manually.

But now all is fine on my SAM.

@sundown

I got it to work without manually fiddling around. Here was my process:

1.) Updated to 2.32 while on Update 5. Worked fine!
2.) Installed Update 6. Reboot. My 2.32 now crashes!
3.) Use Update WB menu. 2.2 From Update 6 works. Wants to update itself to my 2.32 version. Let it. The new 2.32 crashes!
4.) Rollback to 2.2. Update all OS components from menu using 2.2. Cold reboot.
5.) My 2.32 now works. Huh?
7.) Use Update menu again and allow it to update to 2.32 again. Now works fine!

Okay so AmiIpdate 2.32 works fine on Update 5, crashes on Update 6 but works fine again with Update 6 full updated. Make sense? :

Crazy!

not exactly. it is the "copystore" command which makes the problems (which seems to use update.library internally?)... actually also other updates than amiupdate itself will fail...

I've been using AmiUpdate 2.24 up to an hour ago. I just ran the updater and it told of v2.32 (8-Jan-2013). It downloaded and updated itself just fine. I rebooted and then ran v2.32 to get and install a bunch of system updates.

Everything installed and runs fine. What's the beef?
