@Epsilon

Thanks for a comprehensive blog. As a Vampire owner myself, I find peoples different install and usage very intresting.
Hopefully there is more to come, espesially as the core is updated.

Hi All,

It's been a while since I updated this thread but I have certainly continued to update my blog in early 2017, despite my health issues and study committments affecting things from June to November.

I am back up and running again now though, and here is a sample of some of the recent blog entries I have written this month:

Acer 15khz compatible LCD screen (21 inch) available in 2017 - compatible with Amigas:

https://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2017/12/acer-lcd-screen-that-supports-amiga.html

Adelaide Retro Computing Group meeting Dec 2017 (last meeting with myself organising it - lots of Amigas):

https://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2017/12/adelaide-retro-computing-group-meeting.html

What I was up to Amiga-wise during the blog break from June to November 2017:

https://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2017/12/my-amiga-blog-is-back-in-business.html

I hope you enjoy it! The blog is back!

Glad you are back! Works fine on Edge but nothing loads in on Chrome - you can see the side bar and choose articles but the main screen is always blank.

I can view it in Edge and as long as you are back that's fine with me!

Such a cool find with the 15khz Acer LCD monitor. I would never have thought that possible. I wonder why it syncs so low?

Turn off your ad blocker. That worked for me with firefox.

@emeck

Thanks for this feedback.

I have now reverted the blog theme back to the previous one. I had a few people report issues with the new theme, although in reality it is caused by the way the ads google places on the blog interact with the site overall.

Sorry everyone for the annoyance. I just wanted to see if the new themes Google released on Blogger was an improvement. Visually, yes, but people not being able to read it due to ad blockers is a non-starter. Ironic that Google's Chrome was worst affected with blogger, a site owned and run by Google!

Anyway, all fixed. Normal service should be resumed now!

Just a sidenote: You mention a USB card you did not know in the towered up A4000 in your latest blog. To mee it looks like a Thylacine USB card. It was developed by Robert Tsien in the early 2000ths.

Hi All,

Today I wrote my first blog post of 2018 covering the recently released Tower 57 game for AmigaOS4 on my AmigaOne X1000.

The link is here:

Nice post as always and glad to see you blogging again Here is hoping they sort out the graphics card support for Southern Island cards found in most X5000 machines so i can do my own blog post on it and let everyone else know how it performs on the X5000!

@Epsilon...

Thank you mate for your Blog updates!

They are really good, and I enjoying seeing all the new purchases and upgrades you present on these beautiful aging machines. The retro meeting coverage is also fantastic.

It is good to know you have gotten over the illness, or managing to deal with it. Stay well and healthy.

Today is my last day at my employer after 21 years of service. It is the usual "cost cutting" and "restructuring" mantra. I too feel like an old aging machine, but maybe not so beautiful, unlike the Amiga's of course.

What does a new beginning look like?

It is during these times that I now wish I had kept my Amiga1200 060 machine, it would have gotten me through this with some pleasantries from my younger years...

All the best Epsilon...

Q!

@outrun1978

Thanks mate.

I look forward to reading your review on MorphOS 3.10 running on the X5000 when you get it running on there.

I understand waiting for the SI card support thing so you can dual boot AmigaOS4.1 with the latest drivers and MorphOS 3.10. I have read about the trouble people have had trying to use two gfx cards in the x5000 to get around it...sounds awful.

If they had ported MorphOS to the X1000 then this would not be an issue since it does support two gfx cards and altivec quite happily. I used to run a 9250 PCI card at the beginning dual booting with a non-SI card included with the X1000 to get Warp3D before the SI drivers were available.

Ironically the new OS4.1 SI drivers were released for a gfx card series not sold with the X1000 when it was available....sounds familiar to the X5000 situation with MorphOS! We all grumbled a lot about having to buy new cards back then too, but in the end I think most of us X1000 owners did!

The difference here with MorphOS gfx card requirements is this is not a step up in gfx cards like the SI card support was in OS4.1, it is a step backwards...

At least on the X1000 you could run both gfx cards and dual boot PPC Linux to use the second card (which didn't support SI cards fully) without issue.

You can't buy the X1000 system anymore so I can understand MorphOS not porting to it for that reason... That said, I'll happily put my hand up to buy a X1000 version though!

Hopefully MorphOS team fix the X5000 SI gfx card support soon, for all the owners out there. Better yet, support a even newer card that is even faster and get bragging rights over OS4.1.

I am all for anything that improves our NG Amiga operating systems and moves them forward in 2018

Maybe they need to give Hans de Ruiter a call? He's pretty handy with that modern Radeon gfx card support...

@QuBe

Thanks for the kind words about my blog

I am trying to make time for blogging but have less time this year than I did last year. I am doing my best to try to make more time. The MorphOS 3.10 part 1 blog entry took a lot of time this past week, with over 150 screenshots I did for that entry alone, and the text as well! For the time being what I lack in quantity of entries I hope I make up for in quality of the entries I do create!

Sorry to hear about your job. I have been a victim of redundancy and restructuring more than once...IT is a terrible industry for this. I had colleagues who also lost their jobs after 28 years+ service. The long term employees decided to jump into new career paths in most cases and are now doing well.

My advice is don't feel sorry for yourself or get angry/upset with the situation at all. It is what it is. A lot of people make the mistake of "taking a rest for a while" before looking again - the longer you leave it before you get back into the search the harder it gets, believe me. Dust yourself off quickly, update your CV and get back into the search and bulk send out job applications asap - start today!

Regarding my health, I am managing the symptoms better these days, but still get bad days from time to time. I just keep on going and turn on the Amigas to cheer me up. Emulation is good too if you don't have the real deal anymore

I am no longer running the Adelaide Retro Computing Group meetings. After 3 years running it I had to hand it over for health reasons and the other two people I ran it with decided to stop. The meetings are still being run every month in Adelaide at the same venue as before by a new team I handed it over to in January 2018.

I haven't had the time to go to a meeting since the new team started the meetings again in February 2018, but from the reports I see on Facebook it is going well still with good attendance. They had a Commodore themed meeting this month (April). I look forward to going to a meeting again soon.

Keep well and good luck mate.

Epsilon

Hi All,

Over the past few weeks I wrote Part 2 of my blog entries relating to my recently installed MorphOS 3.10 (released in 2018) on my Powerbook G4 laptop.
