Yes, he completed his talk 10 minutes ago. I just caught the final 8-10 minutes of it sadly. |

wow, thats really precise news. just as expected. as far as i understand xeno, who showcased the board in neuss, he is informed that os4 runs on the board, and that there are no problems, but doesnt know any details, just as the above. looks like there is no information to be shared on subject for foreseeable future, otherwise we would have been told by now.Last edited by wawa on 18-Oct-2015 at 08:04 PM.

1000 x Tabor was a quite big stock to get really "low" Amiga price on manufacturing I think... Really hope that price was really low as expected...

| 1000 boards in one production run will lower the price. Maybe even a lot. I've read somewhere that ACube made SAM:s in a batch of 50 or 100 at each run, which of course can't be cheap. So there is reason to believe that this board will be cheaper.
But 1000? That's a lot of boards. Do they expect to really sell them all to Amiga users? There is no reason to believe that every existing user are prepared to ditch their current setup for this.
Either they are extremely optimistic or they have a second type of buyer around the corner. _________________ Amiga Forum - Sweden's best Amiga Magazine

Well, Ssolie was quite frank about the fact that most of them had a real paying job like most of us, making Amiga development a hobby more or less. A hobby he enjoys, but with limited resources and manpower. One of his comments was that beyond anyone making a massive money donation there was little to be done to speed up the process. The money donation seemed to be more a joking comment than anything else. But obviously, a big chunk of money would buy developertime since even developers have to eat. It was an answer to "what can we (users) do to help?"
His serious answer was "skilled/expirienced programmer/developer(s) joining the OS team" would help alot.
He also added that the bankrupt ordeal was detrimental to progress, as you can imagine. Last edited by Overflow on 18-Oct-2015 at 09:33 PM.

Honestly I think that if the board was cheap enough all Sam440 users and maybe most 460 will upgrade... Certainly dunno how much but hope that AEon/ACube have considered any evenience and/or maybe they tryed to gets lowest price possible to attract also users that maybe like to return AmigaOS but was scared by the price...and I belive in that really much! _________________ Simone"Tuxedo"Monsignori, Perugia, ITALY. |

| The Tabor, if the deal is ok, I'll buy it.
When it comes to the X5000, I'm waiting for the 040 model instead
Meanwhile, I'm playing with my Sam and maybe with a Tabor Last edited by marko on 18-Oct-2015 at 09:25 PM.

| If the current Amiga dev team intends to attract newcomers then this new board should be, at most, in the 700 to 800 euros region for a ready to run system. Something like the AmigaONE 500 but with better performance and of course bundled with useful software. I understand that the people that work on the "NG Amiga project" are really few and it's what SSolie sadly said during his presentation regarding real life jobs (his words) that prevent them from spending more time on development. This is the main problem that forces us speculate on the production cost/final price ratio. Anyway, fingers crossed, the NG Amiga family will grow and AEON and devs (along with ACube) are the only ones in the amigaland since 2003-4, that have delivered what they promised even though with missed schedules and high prices. Anyhow they should get the credit and keep up delivering with an eye on what most amigans keep asking for: decent systems, AmigaOS that continues the legacy and mot of all up to date software (at least a decent browser with all the security and aesthetic bells and whistles and an Office suite). Considering that neither the SAM:s nor Tabor are powerhouses I doubt people will upgrade to get slightly faster, but still slow, hardware. More likely the buyers will be people who 1, buys everything anyway, 2, people who thought the SAM 460 was just a little too expensive and 3, people whos hardware is broken or has become flaky. Unless of course the board is dirt cheap (like 100€ cheap). _________________ Amiga Forum - Sweden's best Amiga Magazine

if thats all that there is to tell, thanks for confirmation, looks like ive been telling this all along. funny is that judging by progress that have been reported lately and few years ago, almost all development is actually on hold, i wonder how it would look like accellerated. |
