the forum is back up as well: http://www.apollo-core.com/knowledge.php
but lets not get carried away by announcements. im fond of steady progress instead and rather looking forward to 600 release above all else. its been quite a long time soon to be released, remember? Last edited by wawa on 01-Dec-2015 at 01:28 PM.

The new official Amiga-Slogan is:
Amiga. Two more weeks.
So, we should be happy to get announcements. Who cares about a finished product?
The Amiga Community is faster than the speed of light. That's why we only see the announcement, never a finished product... _________________ Sometimes we give people a lot of credit just because they're writing nice sentences even if it isn't adding up to much. |

| This is great news. I have been watching this one for a while and always wondered if it would make it to market. Looks like Gunnar has worked his magic on this and produced a fantastic product. Can't wait to get my hands on one.

It will be fun to watch how far the FPGA technology can go.
The fact that they now claim a 500Mhz-equivalent 68030 running with a fast memory subsystem should make for some interesting developments.
Good times for retro users! |

500 MHz 68030 = 100 MHz 68060
Still really good for classic users. |

I'm not sure on the 68060 equivalency. They haven't published too much on 68060 comparisons. The Sysinfo tool they are using isn't 060 aware.
The old forums (before the reset) did have some measurements but they are all gone, plus the core has evolved and will continue to evolve. The big deal with the core is reducing the number of clock cycles required to execute instructions - reducing most to one clock if I recall. Even cooler is the logic for fusing instructions. Lots of good ideas in there.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this core far exceeded 100MHz 060 performance at some point.

They published enough benchmarks for my estimate. In one of them (resource demanding demo) 68060 80 MHz was even faster. Sure, core may improve in the future. |

On the other hand, they implement a full 68030 instruction set, so no trapped instructions like on the 040 and 060. It's hard to say, actually. It'll depend heavily on what instructions are thrown at it
I think it's better to refer it to 68030 equivalents, because that's what you can buy today in hardware anyway. _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean. |

500mhz 68030 would be equalent to 125mhz 68040
So comparing to 68060 it is not even 100mhz, it something like 62,5mhz |

Depends on benchmarks (diference will be muuuch higher when comparing FPU code). In my (rather conservative) estimate, 500 MHz 68030 = 150 MHz 68040. |
