@NutsAboutAmiga

As a long time Mac user, I can tell you iTunes is a terrible music player (has certainly become so in the recent decade), Photos is just a decent photo viewer, nothing really special and iMovie is handy, but any normal video editing tool will basically do the same (Final Cut Pro is something else, but it costs a lot of money).

Some apple software packages are really good, IPhoto, IMovie, ITunes... far as I see it we are not in the game, of providing competitive user experience anymore.

Only iMovie is a stand out killer app in that list. iPhoto is a dumbed down photo viewer and is rubbish compared to importers/editors such as Adobe Bridge/Photoshop. Again iTunes is a dumbed down bloatware program which is fine for BUYING music but poor at everything else.

Some people prefer to know WHERE their files are stored in order to actually EDIT them! Whether that be a photo in Photoshop or a sound file in Audacity. iPhoto and iTunes attempt to separate the user from the actual file directory and hence do not promote creation only consumption! To get photos/pictures into iMovie you first have to import them into iPhoto! That's how crazy the Apple 'walled garden' philosophy is

Until the official post by Tuko is out of moderation;

http://forum.apollo-accelerators.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1804

After the big success of the Vampire 600 V2 and Vampire 500 V2+, Apollo Team is proud to announce their next generation FPGA device: the Vampire V4.

The Vampire V4 is made with a standard “one design to fit them all” and comes in three flavors depending on customer need:
The Vampire V4 Standalone System
The Vampire V4 for Amiga Classic compatible with
Amiga 1000/500/2000/CDTV
Amiga 600 with kippa’s adapter (if produced)
The Vampire V4 for Amiga 1200
This new Vampire V4 packs many upgraded specifications and brings Amiga Classic systems to another new performance paradigm thanks to its new Altera Cyclone 5 A5 FPGA and fast DDR3 memory.

The Vampire V4 standalone system will be a complete new Amiga system powered by the 68080 CPU core and the complete SAGA chipset (AGA compatible).

Vampire V4 is powered by:
FPGA : Altera Cyclone V A5 (77k LE, 28nm technology)
RAM : 512MB DDR3 (up to 1GB/s)
And supports:
FastIDE with 40/44-pin connectors
Digital Video-out up to 720p@60Hz
Dual Kickstart-flashrom (for safety)
MicroSD Storage
Certification: Vampire V4 is CE, WEEE and RoHS compliant

PCB is populated by:
1. IO Header #1
2. IO Header #2
3. IO Header #3
4. Ethernet
5. USB
6. USB
7. DB9 (standalone only)
8. DB9 (standalone only)
9. FastIDE 40-pin
10. FastIDE 44-pin
11. FPGA
12. Digital Video Amplifier
13. Digital Video Output
14. DDR3 RAM
15. JTAG Header
16. MicroSD slot
17. MicroUSB Power (standalone only)

All other details are documented in attached PDF.

Apollo Team wishes you a GREAT summer

@BigD

The special thing about iphoto, is the ability use meta data, and build up smart albums, so you can have album based on year, and alums based on events, holidays, birthdays, and other events. wel yes viewer not picture editor. So it bit more advanced then the basic picture / slide show views we have, because it also organizes your pictures.

Then there is typical office packages like MS Office and LibreOffice, what I'm trying to say is that even old outdated Mac's with MacOS is lot more good productivity apps, then what you get for MorphOS or AmigaOS. We have hard time filling that void.

Yes TRIPOS has point, but about using old hardware, but does require better software for AmigaOS, to even compete with the outdated PowerPC MacOSX, and the software packages you can get for that.

@NutsAboutAmiga

I'm quite capable of downloading my photos into a folder entitled Holiday Snaps 2017 or Christmas 2016. I don't need a SMART app attempting to take over the organisation of MY photos! It is such a weird idea and actually slows down the ability to show your friends a slideshow quickly because you find the photos are not all in the same place as they would be if you just downloaded them into a folder!!!!

@NutsAboutAmiga

For the record the whole Project vs Event thing in iMovie is a ridiculous thing too. Normally for home videos; one Event leads to one Project! Why confuse the user with separate saves for each. The fact that there's a top "output" window and a bottom "source" window should be enough. The program should just save everything behind the scenes and then more emphasis should be on the "Export" stage to produce the final article. Maybe it should give the options to delete ALL Event/Project data once the user has EXPORTED the project? Once you do that who cares that you have the Project Saved in a different place to where the Event is saved! It just leads to A LOT of housekeeping to free up space on your hard drive when everything is finished IMHO!

Any computer user worth their weight will have already backed up the original sources and doesn't need Apple programs attempting to hold their hand with all this stuff and creating multiple backups all the time and multiple file structure duplication behind the scenes! Plus if everything goes wrong we have Time Machine

Supported?

Sorry, "unsupported" was the wrong word. I meant to say "incompatible".

Corrected now.

@OneTimer1

Sorry I meant for the Stand alone version. Seems a bit odd to have ports on 2 sides of the board. Would of been nice if it was mini ITX

@g01df1sh

The dimmensions and a picture of the V4 is listed in the PDF;

http://www.apollo-accelerators.com/files/V4_announcement_v1_5.pdf

The with is listed at 123.002 millimeters, but based on the cutoff on the illustration, it seems like its
more like 124 millimeters wide. The 123.002 is at the end of the board, and the rest I added seems to be the extension of the ports beyond the edge; Ethernet and USB ports.

Height is listed at 100.00 millimeter.

So quite small all in all.

The image on which the dimensions are super imposed is a little too wide maybe because of how the image was captured/rendered. I suspect the board really is 123mm wide with slightly overhanging connectors on each end. the length is 100mm but no height profile information is given. So without knowing the exact connectors used any cutouts for them in a case would have to err on the larger side.

There seem to possibly be some mounting points on the board for screwing it down but they aren't marked either and I cant be sure of their existence (I was looking at a hires imag yesterday online but it's been swapped out with a lores version since)

For standalone I'm sure it's just a matter of weeks before someone 3D-prints a case for it...
