| Hi guys.
I wonder if any of you could possibly help. After copying all the neccessary files from the Workbench 1.3 disk to my 3.1 flash drive installation, I now have Say working on my A1200. Good times!
A long time ago on a previous install I had a few lines in my startup-sequence which made my Amiga talk to me when Workbench had finished loading, using the Say program in the background which I thought was really cool. Unfortunately I cannot remember how to do this and can't seem to find any threads here on how to do it.
Does anybody know? I would be ever so grateful

try adding the this line to the end of your startup-sequence:
say "welcome back to the twentieth century" |

I would rather do it like this: Run >NIL: Say "welcome back to the twentieth century"
Then it talks in the background and won't block anything.
I would also add that to the user-startup instead of startup-sequence.

You can edit the user-stertup, startup-sequence or run a script from WBStartup to do this.
I run the following things from a script called by WBStartup so the voice is played towards the end of boot up, and it will also nicely overlay the startup sound which is started earlier from s:startup-sequence
... wait 1 run >nil: SOUNDPLAYER Internet:yam/Sounds/Sweetie.wav
It plays a sounbite from River Song (Alex Kingston) which she says to Dr Who (Matt Smith) quite often, just as my X1000 finishes its booting up.

Thanks for all the help guys, I actually managed to work it out myself in the end albeit without the RUN>Nil: part
I have tried adding Run>NIL: at the beginning but this causes a System request on startup "Please insert volume Run>NIL in any drive" so I have had to go back to using without.
I just have mine saying "Welcome to Amiga Workbench". It's simple but I think it's cool.

Try putting a space between "Run" and the redirection (the ">").
Best regards,
Niels
