How is desktop env poor ... ?? I think that windowed system is usually good for launch apps, not for file-handling. Diskmaster is quite good to make normal disk operations, or forthcoming Magellan...
I think that it should be nice to get navigation buttons to windows, but I don't count OS4 desktop as poor. It is much better than too-fat-to-handle winXP in any manners.
You should tell, what you want and what is better, instead of judge system as poor or whatever. It is more constructive anyway.

More importantly, could they offer their unwanted kit to needy developers? _________________ Snowboarder, Airsofter, Programmer, Writer and AmigaOne XE G4 owner. Experienced applications developer and part-time snowboard instructor |

Windows is a dying platform. Linux has become the alternative OS, and AmigaOS is again going to be the number one choice for most of us....no doubt |
Ehh, I suppose you are joking ? Not that I want to preach in favour for Windows but that it is a dying platform is quite far from the truth._________________ AmigaOS or MorphOS on x86 would sell orders of magnitude more than the current, hardware-intensive solutions. Well, it sounded overdramatic yes, but it's definitely no longer the platform of choice. It has outplayed its' role as that... |

ok - having to select update when you have copied something into a directory... having to write scripts to do xyz when a gui is used on other systems. Other systems are easier to use. I know its still in beta but there is this nuts attitude that the hard way is the best way - is the leet way.. Why? |

| @Helgis 1. Linux is not easier to use than Windows for most people. I prefer Linux by a long shot over Windoze, but many non-Unix, non developer types have a great deal of problems with most Linux distros. Have YOU ever used Linux to do anything 'real'?

Helgis, please come back to reality, where YOU yourself I expect are posting to AW.net from a Windows system (yes or no?).
For the first time in a long while, 'the average person' is interested in platforms other than Windows, but even OS X has perhaps a 5% desktop share. Linux I expect has a larger than the quoted 10% server share, perhaps 5% desktop.
So...let's do some basic math- does 90% of the ownership seem to be 'no longer the platform of choice.'?? If you say yes, then please kindly inform us which alternate reality you're living in.
Many companies who _would_ like to get off of MS arguably can't, as they have legacy applications that runs on the Windows platform.
Other companies want a company responsible for issues they can get support from, thus rule out Linux.
Don't get me wrong, there are companies that are almost exclusively Linux, but many of them used to be Sun/Solaris, and not Windows shops.
Again, 90% of the desktop market isn't exactl going away sometime soon.

| @Bobsonsirjonny I'm Very Happy with OS4 Pre-release. it does exactley what i want it to, takes seconds to load & i dont have to wait 1 min for it to turn itself off.
I am however sick and tired to people Moaning that it doesent do X or Y or theres no applications for it. I think people are working hard to meet the demands for software and remember Its still a BETA OS, feel free to moan about it when its finished, not before!
Wizz.

Think YOU have to wake up a bit! I¨'m using Windows because my CPU on my A1G3XE died out, so before you answer, i suggest you read carefully! You always seems to end up misunderstanding my point. Linux might be harder to set up than Windows, but then Linux has a brigher future than Windows. That's for sure!
Windows is attacked by any type of virus everyday! Trying to be hacked into everyday! Do we see that on Linux at the moment! Not at all, and Linux doesn't have the problematic Microsoft-monopholy the Windows platform has..
So the next time you gonna say something. I suggest you give yourself time to read first, so you avoid misunderstanding my point of views!
Thank you for your attention. Goodnight! |

OS4 is very good, but not great yet. But then its only at pre-release stage still. I found the lack of certain apps and certain old apps that don't work frustrating. But then I've never been the most patient of people... I'm sure these things will be fixed in time, and stuff is happening (Amizilla, AWeb KHTML, JAmiga, etc), he types while keeping one hand firmly on wood desk |

Ok, didn't mean to be angry, but i think we have to face the fact that as the primary OS of choice, Windows has outplayed its' role as that. People use Windows because they HAVE to, not because they WANT to, and now that more and more people are moving over to Linux, this is a fact of itself.... |

Yes, i have used Linux. Maybe harder to set up (Debian), but overall use, it was much better, safer and cheaper to use, and the fact that just about every programs for Linux are free, make this the best choice over Windows... |

| I had to say I've lost all interest in it. I got sick of waiting of the A1 and got a Pegasos II back when they were first released. Since then I've never looked back. I may yet come back after the final comes out and a more up to date version of the A1 is released, but for now I have to say the Pegasos offers a lot more for the money and has 100X more software for it. |
