I actually want a bit of a little beast, with GREP options, find and replace, spellcheck, thesaurus all within one GUI - a kind of "there is the text now do this to it"

GUI Grep is good idea, if ever look at ISPELL again the I'm going to add a GUI, the sourecode is open and anyone can do it if they like, just track down the bug that crashes ram-handler and I'm happy, debug some one elses code is not fun!

@opi

When using AWeb

If you find a page with invisible text due to poorly chosen colours ( eg CSS sites where author hasn't thought about the choice of fall colours in the html) then you can switch off background colours and images.

Just deselect background images in the settings menu.

Or go to settings/browser

Then you get a really old fashioned look but where text is black all links are blues etc.

This might be ugly but it's usable!

As soon as I get my finances healthy I will get a copy, it looks a lot of fun.

GoldED is a really powerful editor, there are so many features under the hood! I'm sure you'll never regret buying it. Don't forget to register at the support forum: http://projects.dietmar-eilert.de/forum/index.php

BTW, as you've mentioned PageStream: there's an ARexx script that sends PgS textframe contents to GoldED for editing and then inserts it back into the textframe. Works wonders.

I want to escape the insanity of MS

Not trying to start a flame war here, but i've read lots of posts like this one on AWorld.

Since your needs are Open Office and Firefox/Thunderbird, you're on the way to get rid of MS. Why not do it fully then?

I'm far from saying GNU/Linux is great (i'm just chosing it here cause it might be the common choice, not cause it is any better than the other *nix or GPL stuff). And i wouldn't compare it to any AmigaOS, not even saying OS4.
However, when it's about comparing it with Windows, the choice seems easy.

Even if you don't know anything about the way other OS than MSWindows…

GregS seems to be advocating for the use of GNU/Linux as an alternative to MSWindows due to his dissatisfaction with Microsoft. He emphasizes that switching would not require extensive learning or setup time and suggests using desktop environments like Window Maker instead of KDE or Gnome, which he believes are slower on Linux systems when used with OpenOffice and Firefox/Thunderbird applications. GregS also criticizes the continued use of Windows as a way to indirectly support Microsoft's dominance in software distribution and marketing strategies that undermine other operating systems like BeOS or OS4, which he is already using but not actively supporting due to his dislike for MS.

GregS appreciates your interest in ISPELL. The idea of a GUI for Grep with enhanced features has been discussed before; however, creating such an application would be rewarding once the RAM-handler bug issue gets resolved and development begins on this project you're proposing!
