The CD32 may have been the first 32-bit console, but it lost out to the Playstation. The CD32 was just an A1200 with a lousy 2x CD drive, 2MB RAM, '020 processor and no keyboard.

Just a few points.....

PS1 only has a "lousy 2x" cd drive as well.
PS1 only has 2MB on board ram.
PS1 has 32 bit RISC CPU clocked at 33.87MHz.
PS1 also doesn't have a keyboard

It also wasn't released until 1994, a full two years after the CD32 was released.

sega and nintendo then skipped the 32 bit market and went 64 bit. not sure if the playstation was 32 or 64 bit tho

Youre false, Sega had the 32X for the Megadrive which was an 32-Bit Enhancement with some 3D capabilitys and they had the Sega Saturn which was 32-Bit... only Nintendo and Atari had 64 Bit consoles and the PSX was 32-Bit!!!!!!

As the CD³² was on the market, the only competitiors (beside the 8 and 16-Bit consoles) where the Panasonic/Goldstar/etc. 3-DO (32-Bit) and the Atari Jaguar (64-Bit)

@The_Editor

I dont think Commodore can not be totaly blamed for this- alot of the software companies jsut re-released their A1200 games on CD for the CD32 with nothing special.

Sega had this problem with the Sega- Mega CD. They jsur rereleased games with audio soundtracks.

The Sega Megadrive was 16bit they released an adon called the 32X (I think that was the name) - according to Retro gamer they originaly planed to relase it as a seperate system.

Commodore hired the billboard for 25 years afak - and had the slogan
"To be this good will take sega ages"

Segas slogan for those that dont know was "to be this good will take ages/sega" with the ages rotating to the sega logo

Edit: forgot to add a word which changed the meaning of my post. oops

YES, Commodore shoulda cleaned up... The only bright spell out of their ineptitude was when some Marketting Guru ( Commodore did have some, believe it or not) hired the giant billboard outside Segas UK Headquarters and did a brilliant pisstake of the Sega slogan.

don't you mean commodore uk had some marketing guru's. the other branches(especially the us sucked big time.

mr pleasance where are you.

@RoqueFort

the crushing blow was that very few cd32's made it into the US before the government cracked down on them and refused to allow any shipments into the us until back taxes were paid.

the cd32 couldn't sell because they couldn't ship them. in the uk however they sold like hotcakes but still was not enough to stem the bleeding.

"Kiss me Amiga!" was the best slogan of Commodore Amiga.

Is this an video games magazine? No i've only read in the 90s the Video Games Magazine and Amiga magazine. The AmigaJoker Magazine has reviewed the CD-i in 1991 or 1990 (damn i must look at home in the magazine to give an correct answer)

@cHaOs667

i believe the cd-i was either 8 or 16 bit more than likely 16 bit so it was not really in the same league as the cd32. i used to watch the infomercials for the cd-i and say to myself thet the cdtv was a whole lot better. especially since the cd-i was developed as an appliance and not as a gaming computer. i put it in the same category as the interactive laserdisk(made by pioneer).

@cHaOs667

no probs hope you enjoy it!

I think I prefered the CDi to the CDTV.
There were some good games and as I had at the time an A500 there was nothing exciting about the CDTV. Again due to lazy software companies most of the games were re-releases of Amiga Floppy games

@nidave

the main advantage of the cd-i over the cdtv was the cd-i had full motion video cdtv didn't. a fair portion of the games for cd-i were fmv games. this was supposed to be an optionon the cdtv but i don't remember if it ever materialized. i don't think it did.

I can remember playing gold on the CDi at a friends house was amazing at the time with speach and everything ;).

In my opinion the problems with the next gen systems as alot of companies focus too much on graphics and dont spend alot of time on gameplay.

sorry getting way off topic there!

how about.

Amiga : you will fall in love!

Amiga : evolution in action
